@mrs. wagon: I highly highly highly recommend listening to a hypnosis recording! They really are amazing - My mum is a psychologist and she got me onto them when I was having trouble sleeping.

You can just download them onto your iphone or whatever you have and listen to it while you are going to sleep! It costs about $15 bucks.

You can get hypnosis tapes for all kind of things, anxiety, eating crap etc! This is the sleeping one I use: http://www.hypnosisdownloads.com/sleep-problems/falling-asleep

I hope it works for you!

@IRunForFun: This might interest you too

I've struggled with insomnia all my life, and when I was little and couldn't sleep, my mom would tell me to lay in bed and either repeat the ABCs over and over in my head, or count backwards from 1,000 in my head, the theory being it would force me to stop.thinking about other things/I'd get bored and fall asleep. Thinking back, she probably just wanted me to go lay down and quit waking her up, but I still use those techniques sometimes!

when i was pregnant and falling asleep was hard for me, i would listen to these youtube videos about masssage--the massage therapist had an extremely soothing voice. these days i can fall asleep pretty well on my own without much help, although i do like my dogs to be with me.

If I'm tired I can usually just pass myself out laying down and watching a YouTube video. But if I have to set my alarm the next day, there is no sleeping at all. It doesn't matter if I've been awake 24 hours and feeling so beat, I'll be up for days. Sleep is overrated.

Having an air conditioner on! I love the noise (grew up with it) and sleeping in the cold air.

Since that's pretty much non existent here, we installed a ceiling fan in our bedroom, and during the Summer have also brought in another tall standing fan.

Omg I used to have such bad insomnia. It was ok when I worked full time but pregnancy and new motherhood brought it all back. What was a miracle cure for me --- the "rainbow relaxation" audio track from the Hypnobirthing class! I know it's for pregnant women to prepare for birth but I continued to listen and in those early days especially when my mind would be racing, it worked so well, it saved me. I needed to sleep so bad and most of the time I would fall asleep partway through it.

These days just closing my eyes.

Before LO I would close my eyes and count back from 100, taking a deep breath between each number and focusing entirely on breathing. And stretched. Stretching, even in bed, helps a ton.

I put my sleep mask on and push it up onto my forehead while I read for a while. DH falls asleep as soon as he gets into bed and I'm left sulking, listening to him snore loudly. He gets elbowed almost every night, poor guy.

I take OTC sleeping pills most nights though. On super bad sleep nights, I take an ambien. Insomnia is terrible.

Reading, I make it about 3 pages before I'm snoring with my glasses on.

Oh yeah, and sex helps too ;)

I really hate how DH can just lay down, close his eyes and go to sleep.

I often have trouble falling asleep, even when I'm super tired. I usually ask Wagon Sr. to rub or scratch my back, and a few times I asked him to look for gray hairs and I passed right out. Of course it doesn't help when he falls asleep while trying to help me fall asleep.. it just gets me more frustrated when I can tell he's fading on me. Of course I feel bad interfering with his sleep, but it's always a race to fall asleep before he starts snoring or grinding his teeth or I'm up for hours!!
