My lo will normally wear a hat but there are times (usually when it's sunny and hot out) that she absolutely refuses. But my husband and I started wearing hats and telling him, Mommy and Daddy are wearing a hat so you need to wear a hat too. He seemed ok with wearing hats after that. There are also some hats that he prefers to wear over others. If he takes them off we just tell him that he has to keep his hat on and 90% of the time he listens. It also helps to show him how cool he looks in the mirror. We are putting them on her ALL the time - indoors, outdoors, in the car, getting ready for bed... we have hats *everywhere*. DH and I wear hats around the house too, so she thinks it's funny to wear hats now. After all this work on the stupid hats, she'll still only wear them for a minute or two, but if she's good and distracted outside, she might keep one on for 10-20 minutes. So we try and distract her and sometimes it works. A strap on the hat helps. </p> <p>But we just lather her head up. Just make sure to get the tops of his ears.
