@dagret: @Smurfette: Good idea! We have copies of those letters on file at the pediatrician and the daycare, but I think I'll make one more copy in case they have to go to the ER or pharmacy.

@Smurfette: I like the idea of giving directions to the parks!

@blackbird: If it was my mom, I would just let her do whatever, but since it's my MIL (and she has a history of not always putting the kids needs before her own), I'm trying to be as detailed as possible

Medicine and doses needed/time frame (detailed because medicine freaks me out)

Doctor, dentist, pharmacy numbers and names.

Kids birthdates (seems weird but exact dates in case she would have to call the doctor, mine asks for them and I don't know if they would know the exact date/year.)

bedtime/TV schedule.

I leave ibuprofen and Bendryl on the counter with dosing instructions for each child (in case of allergic reaction, teething pain, etc).

I also leave information for the peadiatric Urgent Care facility for after hours/weekend minor issues.

Stock the fridge with food!

Honestly, i've just let my MIL fly by the seat of her pants, LOL. I'm not good at anticipating what others might need from me in regards to E

If you are going out of the country I would leave a notarized letter she can make medical decisions for both girls. Also an insurance card.

Otherwise, we left a brief summary of her schedule (when nap is, snack time), food suggestions, directions and addresses to a couple parks and other activities, and we left cash in case they needed something else. I made sure the fridge was stocked with food my parents liked for all the meals and LO had plenty she would eat.

Cash - for dinner out or if she needs to buy something

Loose schedule - what time do they have to be dropped off and what time for pick up ( we just did this in July and I told my mom since she wasn't running off to work like I normally do she could take them later and pick up whenever she wanted)

Insurance cards (or copies of them) and notes giving consent for MIL to receive medical information and make medical decisions in the event you can't be reached.

Maybe take-out info. Favorite foods. Medication doses for each kiddo (in case she needs to give tylenol or something).

The remotes thing made me laugh. We have to do that, too. My husband has ours set up all wonky and it takes 3 remotes and like 6 steps to turn on a DVD!

Maybe some tips of how to handle MOTN wakings if they happen?

I left super detailed info for my friend who baby sat and put DS to bed last Friday, BUT she is childless and asked for a lot of details. If your MIL knows most of their routines she should be fine.

Have a blast!!! That sounds heavenly.

@BabyBoecksMom: you might want to get a document that says your mom can take your kids to the doctor. my state's medical association has the forms online.

And of course make sure daycare knows about your mom picking them up - give them her contact info as the emergency contact while you're gone and maybe give their teachers a heads up, in case there are any potential behavioral issues in your absence?

Closest grocery store/market, if she doesn't know that already?

We'll be gone on a kid-less vacation for 4 nights to Mexico and my MIL will be staying at our house with the girls. We will have wi-fi/video chat available, but almost no other communication. They will be in daycare during the day, so she'll only need to do the night time and morning routines.

So far, I'm leaving a list of how to work the remotes (we have 3 for each TV....), school and doctor info and a detail of their bedtime routine (along with some of their quirks).

Can you think of anything else?
