My son has been inconsistent with his wake time since 4 months but we shoot for a 7:30am wake up time. He's usually waking up somewhere between 6:00-7:30am and the inconsistency drives me nuts! I usually get up around 6:30am myself to pump and eat and get ready for the day, hopefully before he wakes up.

His sleep needs have been decreasing a bit. He used to take 5-6 hours of naps a day (4 naps) and then sleep 11-12 hours overnight. Now its more like 4 hours of nap a day (3 naps) and 10-11 hours of overnight sleep. His bedtime used to be a strict 730pm - he was so tired and ready for bed - but lately its been more like 8 or 8:30pm and he's pretty awake when he's put down because his last catnap is around 6pm. He's not ready to drop it yet because if we try to skip it, he's overtired and wont take his last bottle. Once he drops that third catnap around dinner time we should be back to a 7:30pm bedtime.

Our 14 month old wakes up at 7:15 on her own almost every morning. She goes to bed between 7:30 and 8, and usually wakes up once throughout the night.

She also naps 4 hours a day. I think some babies/people just need more sleep. We tried doing an earlier bedtime, but she still slept until 7:15.

Best wishes with the nap training. I remember we went through sleep training (more scheduling), and then I had to do naps. It's so much easier!! Fingers crossed it's easy for you!

@littleredhairedgrl: I wasn't familiar with nap training (we didn't formally sleep train either) so I read through a blog post here and realized we more or less did that at some point. It helps a lot! Now I can just set him down every 2 hours or whenever I feel like it and walk away.

Mine goes down at 7:15/30 (bottle at 7, asleep by 7:15/30) and is awake by 6:30. Sometimes 6, rarely 7. So it sounds like I have your "ideal" bed and wake time. But I do wish he'd sleep till 7:30 :-) That would be amazing!
But I will say, we wake at 7 regardless. The rare few times he's still been asleep at 7, I get him up even though we don't have anywhere to be. I like to keep his eating and napping schedule consistent day to day and try not to vary more than 15 minutes in any direction. That being said, I do think I should be like @mae and start to loosen up on the schedule. If/when I go back to work he'll have to get used to being on a looser schedule. And it'll probably just make my life easier as well!

today marks day 1 of sleep/nap training (after mapping out my "ideal" schedule for hours yesterday :silly: ) working on 3 naps and she's currently down for nap 1

fx!!

Mine gets up anywhere from 6:30-7:30. I'd say to enjoy the "sleeping in" because it probably won't last. There will be a sleep regression or teething or the sun will come up too early.

That sounds like a normal wakeup time for the bedtime! My dd was always a 12hr sleeper so when she was going to bed at 10pm early on (she would always wake up as if it were a nap if I tried to put her down earlier) she would wake in the morning at 10am. Now at 21months she requires a little less sleep so she sleeps 10-11hrs usually like 9pm to between 7:30-8:30am. Most of my sahm friends have toddlers who wake around the same time, but most working moms I know have kids with earlier wake times out of necessity since they usually have to leave early for work. I would not be happy with an early wake time! Haha

@littleredhairedgrl: J was at 4 naps for a long time, maybe every 90 minutes? Then 3 naps, every 2 hours. I'm starting to think with the preemie/IUGR/feeding issue babies they can be a few months behind with some of these things. I follow his lead with whether he has 2 or 3 naps a day - naps are spaced 2 or 2+ hours apart, and bedtime is 7-7:30, so if he wakes up from the second nap later than 2:30-3, I just give him an early bedtime. Somehow he does okay with the long stretch. But I knew it was time to try dropping the 3rd nap when his 1st suddenly became 2-3 hours once in a while.

But going back to your original question, at some point recently I did sit down and decide times that I actually wanted his bottles to be given when I felt they should be spaced out more and on a different schedule, and worked to adjust all of them to fit that schedule.

@littleredhairedgrl: For a looong time (probably from 3 months-12ish months), my LO slept from 9pm-8am with usually just one wake up. Now that he's a little older (15 months), he STTN from 8pm-6:30/7am. Honestly, I really miss sleeping in! I think if it's working for you, don't sweat it! :)

@littleredhairedgrl: I tried to go by max awake time. So first nap 2 hours after waking, second two hours after that, third two hours after that, then bedtime two hours later. Once we tried that out we played around with which ones we could stretch, vs which ones were too hard to keep them awake longer. (First nap is always the least flexible for my kids). I had the 2-3-4 schedule as a goal so that helped determine where I wanted to be eventually. I don't know if this is the "right" way to do it, but it ended up working for us.

LO is 25 mo and goes down at 8:30. During the week, we have to wake her up at 8:15. On weekends, she often sleeps until 9 or 9:30 (and one time 10! It was glorious!). Sleeping later might push her nap on the weekends, but we just roll with it. It doesn't affect bedtime at all.

@littleredhairedgrl: J tends to wake up between 4:30-5:30 and 6 would be a miracle for us. I often wonder if he has a slight day/night mixup. It's really tough trying to schedule these babies to work with those groups and activities! Every single storytime and class here is between 10 and 11 and I'm like, hello! Doesn't anyone have a kid who naps in the morning? But the few times I've gone it turns out they're all meant for toddlers and now I know why. Are you still in NJ? We need to figure out an HB meetup somewhere in Central NJ!

E's 22 months and goes down at 730 and up around 630/7.

830-730 with a 5am wakeup doesn't sound bad for me for your babe, though! I would probably dig a 7:30am wake up if I didn't have to be at work at 730!
