We're going to be keeping ours downstairs in the family room. We'll use it for changes while we're down there and for nap time if I am too lazy to take her back upstairs. :) We are not planning on using it as a portable thing because it is SO dang heavy.

Ladies, I need a suggestion for a pack and play to keep at my parents home. We might need to take it with us for a car trip in May, so ideally it should fold and not take up too much space.

My son is 14 months now and average sized. I was thinking the GoCrib, but it's too pricey and I am not sure he'll be able to fall asleep in there.

I registered for the.smaller one you linked to, the travel lite crib. My son was very big for his age, but by 5 weeks of age his armspan was as wide as the crib was and I worried about him outgrowing it since we would be using it for a while when we travel to my parents. I ended up exchanging it for a base model full size pack n play. It cost $30 less, wasnt much heavier at all and packed up was only marginally bigger. Unless you are really tight for space or need to move it between rooms often, I would definitely go with a full size pack n play.

If you have space in your living room, it's great to have there to use as a diaper changing station and a playpen! I didn't like changing his diapers on the floor or couch so the pack n play was perfect.

We only used ours as a diaper changing station or the first 4 or 5 months. Baby Y slept in the FP rock n play until about 11 weeks, when we transitioned him to his crib. Loved it. Now we use a Bjorn travel crib for traveling. It is pricey but is actually lightweight and simple to use, and pack n plays are definitely not. It is one of the few things I would not buy again if I had a do-over.

We have used ours every day so far- we ended up getting a basic one without the bassinet, works just fine from the day we brought him home from the hospital!

He has slept in it in our room, but now we are moving him into his room for at least part of the night.

Trips to Grandparents house/hotel travel, place to nap since it is secure (won't roll off a bed or couch). Works great to change diapers in too.

When I take a shower or use the bathroom, it is right outside the door, so I just stash him there for a few minutes so I can hear him.

If I go to work out in the yard, I just pull it into the shade outside and keep him there.

When he gets more mobile, as a playpen.

We used our pnp for the first 3.5 months of LO's life - she slept in the bassinet part of it in our room. Since then she's been in her crib but now that she likes to play alone, I'm going to try have her play in it instead of on the floor like she does now.

We used our pack n play a TON. We had a big one that had a bassinet attachment and changing table. He slept in our room in the bassinet for the first month, and we used the changing table which was awesome. I still used it every now and then for naps but he was mostly in the crib after a month old. Then we used one downstairs-- I'm one of the lucky moms whose baby would actually be happy inside the pack n play as a playpen. That was great for before he was big enough for a jumperoo and I had to go to the bathroom. We use it for traveling and we have a spare that we keep in our guest room for guests with babies.

I know a lot of moms who used them instead of a crib the first few months. But then I know a LOT who also used the Rock n' Play.
Had so many recently rave about the rock n play because it works great for traveling and super compact and I know some who thats all they used the first 3-4 months for LO to sleep in. However, the rock n play will not be able to be used as long as a pack n play. But it is a LOT smaller if all you need it for is the first few months.

Yeah, that's a tough one. Because I hardly ever used the pack n play. But I know lots of moms who couldn't live without it. A lot of people use it travel (staying over parents homes for example), as a temporary playpen for when you have to step away from your LO for a second, as a bassinett, as a 2nd crib for napping if you have a 2 story house and don't want to go up and down the stairs all the time. ummm. That's all I can think of right now.

Those were all reasons that I thought would make it useful for me to buy one but I used it maaaaybe 3 or 4 times? So it wasn't really worth it for me.

Hmmm - it's hard to say. We only use our pack n play for travel and have a very basic model. We originally registered for the first item you linked to and we got it as a gift - then we took it out of the box and realized how huge and heavy it was for travel - we decided to exchange it for a smaller/simpler one. However, I can see it coming in handy for you during that first month. I think the first item you will be able to use longer than the second.

I am debating on keeping a pack and play on our registry. For the first month of life, my baby will not have a crib (we will be in the process of moving and packing!) So I was wondering If I should register for a full on pack and play like this
http://www.toysrus.com/product/prodpop.jsp?LargeImageURL=http%3A//TRUS.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-7622913dt.jpg&displayTab=enh&productId=4133853&totCount=0

or if I should go with something smaller like this (for her to sleep in and then just take to the baby sitters house once I am back to work and she has her crib)

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3609375&cp=2255957.2273443.3561177.3561197&green

any suggestions?
