@Cherrybee: this is my lo exactly. And it's not like it's fun for me to have to always be close to home so that she can get her naps. But the way I see it, everything is a season, and soon enough she will be staying up longer and I will be begging her to take a nap. My little nephew is only 2 and already, getting him to take a nap is a battle.

@lawbee11: exactly this! I even asked my parents last time I was there what they used to do about naps and they said they couldn't remember...but they didn't think I slept as often as S does! I feel guilty when I hand her over for them to watch her for a few hours and I can see she's tired and they're like "oh she'll be fine playing for a bit longer.." and I'm thinking "umm, she's about to meltdown already!" :(

My baby is 5.5 months and it's not unusual for her to have four naps a day because she takes such short naps. Like you, I'm sick of hearing "How can she be tired already, she's only just woken up?" and "Don't let her sleep now, she wont sleep tonight if you do" (both my MIL). I know my baby, I know when she's tired and I know what will happen if I don't let her take a nap!! Oh and anyone who has had kids of their own and still thinks a baby will just fall asleep when he/she is tired have either forgotten what it's like or were really, really lucky! My BFF's baby was like this, she just carried on with her life and he fitted around it, sleeping in restaurants, shops, the car etc. My LO WILL NOT sleep unless she is in her bed, with black out blinds, white noise machine and sleep sack.

We got a lot of the same comments over the holidays when we were visiting our families. "you're taking her for a nap ALREADY? She doesn't seem tired".

But my baby is rubbing her eyes and getting the vacant stare. I know when she's tired.

I hear you!! I don't know how many different people (even other moms) have said to me "but he doesn't look tired"...but as soon as I do the nap routine and put LO in the crib, he is out within 5 minutes...its annoying but you just have to kind of have a deaf ear. You are doing what is best for your baby, that is all that matters...

My husband just started saying that I'm putting her to bed too early and coupling it with "Well, I hate that you aren't getting as much time with her now that you're working." 1) If she's tired, she needs to sleep and I get that. 2) Stop bringing up the fact that I don't get as much time with her now. I know way more than you do about that buddy and I don't really want to cry right now.

DS is 5.5 months and is only starting to get fight his 3rd nap this week so 3 naps for a 4 month old is totally normal!! And I agree, if a baby is tired, they should sleep. They grow so much when they sleep!

@scotchbonnet: I hate when people make comments like that! Yes, some kids are easy and they'll just doze off when they're tired, but some kids need the perfect environment and the perfect timing to go to sleep without being overtired! Don't judge! You're not doing anything wrong! You know your kid best, so hang tough momma!

@pui: my sentiments exactly! She loves grandma because grandma will do aaaanything to get a smile and a laugh out if her. Which is just fine by me. But when it's nap time, then I am taking her upstairs. Sorry mom.

3 naps is totally normal for a baby that age!!!! Gahhh, I hate it when people do stuff like that. I'm always getting grief from my in-laws because when I put Xander down for a nap or want to leave their place to get him to bed at a reasonable time is inconvenient to them. They're all "Nooooo, he wants to stay up!" "He wants to hang out with us more!" I'm like "STFU - you have no idea what HE wants - you just are saying what YOU want which doesn't work for our family." This is totally a pet peeve of mine, so I hear you! Just try to ignore them as best you can!!! <3

I'll smack them for you! LO was absolutely still on 3 naps at 4 months! My mom always used to say that we were putting LO down too late for his last nap, but it was his schedule and he always slept fine for us at night. So just stick to what you know. She will start to let you know when she only needs 2 naps. I don't think LO eliminated his 3rd nap until he was at least 6 months. Keep doing your thing mama!

Gah! The next person who tells me that I am putting lo down for naps too often will get a smack upside the head. Lo is just 4 months old and has 3 naps a day. I do all the nap and bed time routine, yet dh has the nerve to complain that I put lo down for naps too often. And now my mom has started saying the same thing because she wants to play with the baby. What does that even mean? I don't get it. If she is tired, I am going to put her down for a nap. Simple. She is not a toy to be played with. She is a baby. I know her tired/sleep cues and so why shld I keep her up just to make grandma happy? I am the one who has to do the nap routine: nurse her, read the same book for the umpteenth time, sing the same two songs for the zillionth time, rock her a bit and then set her down to sleep, then hang out outside her room till she falls asleep. I do ALL the hard work so what is it to anyone how many times I put myself through it?!?
This parenting thing is hard enough without having to deal with comments like that.
Uggghhhh.
sorry for the long rant. Had to get it off my chest
