My dog's a rescue dog, and we got her when she was 1.5, and she already had a lot of bad habits.

She is makes really intense eye contact with other dogs and then if they make eye contact back for too long she barks a lot. That's the worst. She also is just SUPER excited to meet everyone and is far too interested in smelling crotches.

Otherwise she's great!

@T.H.O.U.: ha! Our dog does that, too. We figured it was the stomach already in action, hoping for food.

I would say the most embarrassing AND annoying thing is her appetite for poop. Her poop, deer poop, cat poop.....gross, gross, gross.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: in our last neighborhood, we had a perfect path where we could quickly ditch a poop bag in the trash. Nothing like that in our new place. I was thinking that someone could make a lot of $$ if they came up with some kind of invention so dog walkers didn't have to carry/see/smell the bags of poop for the rest of their walks.

Haha, I love reading all of your stories :)

I don't have a dog of my own, but as many of you know I board dogs. I absolutely hate when I'm out walking with a dog, and they will take a massive dump right in front of someone. We could be in a big empty field, and not see anyone for half an hour, but then the minute we happen upon someone else, out comes the poop. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does...it's so awkward. I'm like, "Oh don't mind me, just bagging some poop here..." and then you have to carry around this bag of poop until you find a trash can. And anyone you pass just KNOWS what you are holding.

Maybe I am just over-sensitive to carrying poop.

She whines. She gets up next to you, sits down, you think everything is great, here's this dog who wants to sit near me. Then the whining starts. Quiet at first, like she's breathing funny. Then you hear it hmm, hmm, hmm. Then the eyes start going and she looks at you. Don't make contact. If you make contact, she will roll over and start flailing her legs all over the place, scratching you, making loud sneezing and roaring noises because she can't breathe upside down.

Embarrassing - the dogs do the submissive piddling thing, esp around new ppl who can't read their body language and reach over to pet them. I guess that's also annoying.

Annoying - when we leave the house, they go straight for the trash cans in our master bathroom so we have to not only shut the door but have to put giant boxes in front of the door bc they can push open the double doors to the bathroom.

@snowjewelz: My dog's most embarrassing thing is trying to eat people; however, your story reminded me of this weekend...

Our dog is a humper when you're laying on the floor. So this weekend I was laying on DD's floor playing with her, and DH comes in and pretends to hump my leg like our dog (we have strange senses of humor I guess). We laughed it off and he left. DD (14 months) proceeds to climb over my leg and do a PERFECT imitation of her father. I was mortified and yet couldn't stop laughing!!

Embarrassing: he screams - not like a dog, more like a human woman being murdered - whenever someone comes to the door. It's seriously not a noise I've ever heard come out of a dog before.

Annoying: he needs an audience when he eats. He won't eat and barks until someone comes into the kitchen to watch him eat. It was cute/funny at first, but now it's sooooo annoying.

our old lab was an aggressive "ball thumper" as my husband said. That is how she greeted all males, but shoving her nose there and shoving it upward. Our new lab puppy is the same way, she has sacked him so many times! I think its funny... but guests done appreciate it.

Embarrassing: his thick tail usually knocks men right in their junk (he's a great dane)

Annoying: he would rather starve than eat his food if LO1 comes near him when he tries to eat. He also HAS to go in the backyard every time we walk in the front door.. even if we were just in the house 5 min prior. Oh, and he hides every time one of the girls cry.

embarrassing: the littler box is in the bathroom and whenever i go to use the bathroom they insist on coming in and using their litter box... only their poops are the stinkiest, most awful things in the world, so i'm always worried that people will think that i was the one making such a stink in the bathroom when it is in fact the cats.

annoying: for winnie, it's her love for all things paper, thin plastic or cotton (cotton balls, q-tips, etc), i can't have toilet paper on the holder anymore! i have to lock it in the cabinet or she turns it to confetti- even unopened packages, she will chew through the plastic wrapping and pull out the paper towels or toilet paper and destroy it. yesterday she ate through a plastic bag to get to a gift bag, which she then at a hole through  also she thinks she should be able to climb you, like your skin, up your legs. for wilson, he bolts out the door every time i open it and he likes to sleep laying across my neck, which was cute when he was super tiny, but now he's over ten pounds and i feel like he's choking me!

this is what happens when winnie has five minutes with a pkg of toilet paper
