DH was about 4 or 5 and was pushing his younger sister in a stroller at the grocery store. Somehow he switched strollers with someone who had a little boy. MIL didn't notice until they were at the car and said "This isn't my child." She went back to the store and the manager told everyone to check to make sure that they had the right child. Of course, no one did. 10 minutes or so later, another mother runs to customer service about not having the right child. They switch strollers and everything is fine. MIL wonders if she would be arrested if this happened now.

@Portboston: OMG, similar situation! DD was like 2 and playing in her room, she was playing with the knob and locked it. I was solo parenting. Never had I noticed before the prior owners had a keyed lock on the door. Thankfully it was a hollow core door, I literally had to chop a hole in it, reach through and unlock the door.

This thread just keeps getting more amazing. On the note of weird things in boots: one of my adorable angel children took their apple juice box with a straw in it and mostly full and stuck it in my boot. When I stuffed my foot in it the next morning, I squish the box sending apple juice right up my pants and soaking the inside of my boot :shocked:

@irene: my husband was ready to kick the door in! He was panicking and I'm like dude, the kids are asleep. Lets not traumatize them by kicking in the door. The window is open so I can crawl through. My oldest doesn't even remember me waking him up to crawl through the window and the baby didn't wake up at all!

@KT326: OMG, are you guys actors / stunt-doubles of Mission Impossible or what? 😂😂😂

@misolee: Oh my gosh, that is one exhausting story 😂 The poor 2 year old!! Only if she can just open the door lol

This reminds me of the other time we were taking out our Christmas tree onto the curb on New Year day. DH and I carried the heavy tree stand out to our front lawn to dispose the water. DS (5 or 6 yo) followed, and swiftly slammed the front door shut right behind him. We screamed in horror. We were like oh my gosh why did you shut it?! He was like well you guys always told me to close the door behind me LOL. That was the coldest day of the year, I didn't even have my shoes on. No one had our keys. Thank God our neighbor was in and we went in to call for the locksmith. And thank God locksmith was working (and charged us double for the new year price, of course).

Oh, I just remembered a story from a family I babysat as a kid. They had 2 older girls and a boy and when I went to babysit one night I got told the youngest was being punished because he had cut the hair off all his sisters' American Girl dolls (they had 2 each) and peed on all their (the dolls) clothes. I cannot even imagine how angry I would be if my child did that...

For my kids--nothing too crazy, except the park near our house has these life size chess pieces that are surprisingly heavy, and my 5 year old picked one up and threw it at me. (we were playing chase) I was wearing flip flops, and it landed JUST RIGHT and slammed my big toe nail. It hurt a ton and was all swollen and then turned black. Just now, 6 months later, the whole nail fell off and now I have no toe nail. So that's nice.

But growing up, I have the best story. My dad was out of town for work and my mom was frazzled (working full time with 5 kids). I was an infant and my next oldest brother was 2. My mom had gone to the supermarket for a super quick trip just to buy 2 things, and left my oldest brother and sister in charge (they would have been like 12 and 15). My toddler brother locked himself into the upstairs bathroom, and this was an old type of doorknob that didn't have the safety release latch. So the oldest 2 didn't know what to do to get the door open and the toddler out. They called my dad, in another state, and asked him what to do (this was pre cell phones of course, so they couldn't reach my mom at all and they called my dad at his office). My dad said my brother would have to take the door off the hinges. But then my brother looked, and the hinges were on the inside--so he couldn't do that. They were starting to panic because the toddler brother wasn't answering when they called his name.

So my 15 year old brother got my dad's ladder from the shed and put it up to the 2nd floor window so he could see if my toddler brother was okay---well, he was inside the bathroom and had taken his diaper off and pooped, and was picking up the poop, rubbing it everywhere, and shoving it down the floor vents. True Story.

So then my brother went back inside the house and had to do a series of flying leaps and kicks and eventually kicked the door down. My mom came home to a huge mess, a broken bathroom door, and a bunch of traumatized kids, lol. And my oldest siblings have reminded my brother about the poop incident for his entire life, and he's turning 40 this year, lol.

A good fiend of mine was 36 weeks pregnant when her two year old shut the door and locked her out of the house. The neighbor who had key copy wasn’t there. She had to flag down a passing car to use their phone to call husband but she couldn’t reach him (he’s a doctor and was in surgery), her MIL has a key but she couldn’t remember her phone number. She was this close to breaking her windows open when there neighbor came home. Her two year old fell asleep by the door crying :crying: and when she finally was able to get inside, her water broke 😳 little sister was born that night.

@irene: So we rent a pretty old house. The knob to our boys room would randomly get stuck but if you jiggled it a little bit it would eventually open... until it didn't. I went to check on the boys before I went to bed and I couldn't get in their room! Of course the screws to take the knob off were on the inside of the room. Luckily I had left their window open a bit so I could climb in from the outside. I tried opening the door from the inside but nothing was working. We took the knob off and still couldn't open it. I even took the pins out of the hinges and still couldn't get the door off! I ended up waking the kids up, handing them to DH through the window and they slept in our room.

Our landlord came over the next morning and had to drill through the metal parts of the closing mechanism to get it off.

@Portboston: So he hates bedtime for everybody so he locked YOUR door so you don't get to sleep? Shouldn't he be locking his own door if HE didn't want to go to sleep 😂 Regardless thank God for a strong mama who can kick the door down! I wonder if I could do that :grin:

Great chain of events to getting rid of the lock that you didn't have a key to 😂 😂 😂

ETA: Reminded me of there was a period of time DS (around 4-5 yo?) liked to lock the door to his room whenever he was not in. He carried a piece of those children plastic dental floss, and would pretend it was a key that he could use to unlock his room every time. One day he came home from school and needed to go to #2 very urgently (he likes to go to his own bathroom which can only be accessible through his room). He almost pooped his pants and screamed for help when he realized his door was locked and he didn't have that plastic floss "key" with him. I was like, well, you did that to yourself... 😂

My brother used to try to flush the cat down the toilet, my parents caught him more than once shoving her in. Oh, and also one time - so we had an alarm on the house, and my mom has to set the alarm at the front door and then run to the back door to get out. One day she ran to the back door, stuffed her feet in her boots, and realized my brother had filled her boots with water.

Not my toddler but my sister. When she was about 5 she cut her bangs off and went as far as to tell our mom a specific child at school did it! She finally relented when our mom picked up the phone to call the other child’s parents. But here’s the best part. She still has the bag of hair....

@Foodnerd81: all our other rooms are the turn kind (which he locks and unlocks all the time) I have no idea why the former owners put a key lock on the master and didn’t leave us the key!! I tried popping it with a knife in the door jam but that just ruined the framing. Then I tried to bust the handle off but the screws were on the inside. We ended up having to get a new door plus frame and handle. Uggggh toddlers.

@Portboston: my 3 year old locked herself in her bedroom- it’s not an actual key but it was a turn lock, not the push type that is easier to pop from outside. DH was able to use a screwdriver to take the entire knob off while I stuck my fingers under the door to calm her down. We immediately put a knob cover over that doorknob and tape over the hole so she can’t lock it again before we buy a new doorknob without a lock. But hers was just fooling around, not an intentional jerk thing to do.

My 3.5 year old hates bedtime so he locked my bedroom door and shut it (no one but the dogs were inside). DH was out of town. I ended up having to kick the door in because we don’t have the key for the lock (it’s an actual lock not just one you can open with a knife).

I don't have anything too crazy involving my son, but my sister and I have some good ones. When my sister was about three or four, she jumped into the pool for my mom to catch her, but somehow her teeth got my mom on the forehead. Sister was fine, mom had to get stitches...

As for me, when I was four and my sister was two, apparently she was driving her tricycle around the house, and I opened our front door so she drove right out onto the porch and down the stairs...oops! Luckily she didn't get injured much beyond a bad cut on her lip.

Omg, and I just remembered that my husband and his twin sister were terrified of their cabbage patch dolls, so they threw the dolls into the oven and turned it on! hahaha

We have a hair cutter but thankfully she only does it to herself. She likes to hide it random places. No serious injuries here other than some temporary (less than a month) vision loss for my husband when DD1 stabbed him in the eye with a fork (by accident).

@Sams Mom: aww poor thing!! I am glad you grew up alright haha!

@codeitall: awww!!!

@Corduroy: Yikes HAHAHHAHAHA Stop throwing my babies in the trash you guys HAHHAHA . And wow, what an irony to not let you bring breast milk into a show named "Pump and Dump"! Glad that all the mothers stood up for you, but I can also understand the poor bouncer is completely clueless. Maam you can not bring your own drink, dude it is not like I am going to drink my own breast milk lol

@Foodnerd81: You should have told your father, I will release your daughter as soon as you pay me $500 and sign this agreement for a whole month of unlimited TV first (or whatever your heart's desire) lol

I also gave my little sister her first hair cut. Then I made her hide in a corner behind a chair, so obviously I knew it was wrong, but I can remember claiming it looked better. Later I remember “playing kidnapper” and tying her to my desk chair with a bandana over her mouth. I remember going downstairs and my dad calmly asking where my sister was, I said she was playing upstairs, and he goes, “go untie your sister” and went back to reading the newspaper.

Also not my kids but shortly after my grandma came home with baby #4 she found him in the trash can. She never figured out which older brother put him there.

@irene: I went to that show when LO2 was a baby. It was a Friday so I took the train from work and met a friend for a rare night out. The bouncer searched my bag and stopped me at the door. He looked at my pumped breast milk and said I couldn't bring it in. I felt so out of touch when I realized I just tried to bring breast milk into a night club. As I was taking a second to process the disconnect between my desire to not dump my milk and the bouncer trying to do his job the line of women behind me jumped to my defense. That poor bouncer. That was not the crowd to challenge on breast milk. Thankfully we quickly agreed to put my bag in coat check and there was no revolt.

Not my kid, but me. At 4, I helped my baby brother roll over... dislocating his shoulder in the process :shocked: Yeah, he made up for that over the years...

@irene: I still wasn't walking at my 2 year check 🤦🏼‍♀️

My parents legitimately thought there was something wrong since I was holding out for so long. The doctor was checking my hips and legs, asked his the baby was, then told me and my parents that there was nothing wrong with me and I needed to start being a helper. 😂
