Just ordered one. DS is 3 and has been waking in the middle of the night to jump up and down in his crib. Over the past week it's moved to around 5/5:30 am (he then goes back to sleep, I don't) so maybe this will help him NOT JUMP.

we got it around 2.5 i think, but she didn't get it until closer to 3 and even then she was a honey badger who didn't care.

You may want to add an earlier option. We started using one before she was 2. Maybe around 18 or 20 months? Took awhile but she understood. It doesn't always work though :silly:

We started using ours around 2.5, but she really didnt start following it until more like 3-3.5.

We went through a similar regression with DD around the time her sister made her appearance...it fizzled after a few months...

We started ours around 18m and although it took a while for him to understand, he finally did and it mostly worked great. We’re still using it at 2.5! I do have to point out that my son is a HUGE rule follower so I’m sure that helped!

We had the early wakings right around 2 months after my son turned 2 and we didn't have any new sibling or anything else to attribute it to. We started using a similar type clock (it was this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002TKLN46/ref=twister_B01F3OHVWW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1). One of the Amazon reviews recommended setting the clock to a time that was attainable until the kid "gets" how it works and then you reward/praise them for their success for a few days and then you gradually move it later in 15 minute increments until you get your desired wake time. We tried that approach and it works great for us with our young two year old.

It has solved our 5am wake ups, but I wasn’t too ambitious- I set it to be green when he likes to wake up, not when I do (6:10). He’s 25m, started 6wks ago

DS shared a room with his bigger sister when we did the crib transition as a early 2. To my surprise he followed it from day 1. I remember it took DD a few weeks because she was already in the habit of getting up and didn’t have a role model in the room.

We got one at 2.5 and it didn’t work. He either didn’t get it or didn’t have the impulse control. Out of desperation (I was pregnant and exhausted) we put a doorknob cover on his door. After trying that once or twice he gave up and went back to sleeping to a reasonable time.

We broke it out again around 4 and now he gets it. He knows he can only get up to potty before it’s green and if it’s yellow or red it’s still sleep time. Idk about other kids, but those concepts were over his head at 2.

We started around 21/22 months and I could not believe how well it worked. My kid was waking up at 4:30 or 5am for the day, we got the clock and she started sleeping until 7. I could not believe it. Definitely give it a try.

@lbee, in her infinite wisdom, suggested it to me for my son who was 2 years 7 months. He'd had a bad dream and was going through a horrible series of early morning wake-ups in tears. It helped redirect him. He was still in the crib, and got used to knowing he could call for us when the clock was green. It was awesome, and by the time he was in a toddler bed, he knew the drill well and (for the most part) respects the rules of not calling for us until it turns green now at almost 3.5 years old.

I was just mentioning this to my husband, my son is the same age as yours and he has started to get off his (floor bed) and come to our room more frequently depending on the night. He needs the sleep so wondering what others have to say. We may try one, I am not sure if it can hurt to try?

We are starting to deal with some early wake-ups at 2y2m .... probably due to life disruption with the arrival of LO2. However, as a sleep-deprived mama, I want to do what I can to get him to continue sleeping! A lot of it is I KNOW he still needs to sleep. His normal waking time is 7, and if he wakes up any earlier than that, he is cranky and clingy and doesn't want to do anything but be held. If he wakes up on time or later, he is happy and plays well.

So, I'm considering an OK-to-Wake clock. I imagine he is too young but maybe not?? When did you start one with your child and did it work well?
