For us, just today it has to be that Munchkin Mozart Magic Cube! HAHA! And I bought that way back when, when I read about it right here on hellobee!

DS is going to be 6 in two weeks! No matter how hard I try to convince him to donate that cube that he has since his birth he won't. He sleeps with it on his bed right next to him. I don't get it because sometimes he turns and would hit the cube and it would play music and woke him up (!)

So today we went to DS's first OPERA, Mozart's Magic Flute, at the puppetry arts center. it is intended for kids. Real opera singers performed with aids from puppets. When a familiar tune came along, DS got his eyes big and exclaimed, mommy, I know that song! I thought it was the classical music we sometimes play for him at bedtime, but no, he said it was from that magic cube! He then proclaims it is a magic cube that's why it has music from the Magic Flute. Haha. We then came home and he was obsessed at showing me which songs were from the Magic Flute on his cube.

That has been the winner so far. He is obsessed with trains, and even that he just allowed us to donate his train engineer costume yesterday. Then he sleeps with a gruffalo stuffed animal every night, but we only got it when he was 2-ish. His Lego fire hasn't burned out (yet) but we got it first when he was 1-ish, and there was the Duplo and the real Lego.

@wrkbrk: we have this one. Seriously used daily. Actually got it when he was like 6 months and still spitting up EVERYWHERE but wanted to be playing on the ground more. This is wipeable and has 2 sides. But he mostly just uses the street side. He’s now nearing 3.5. So 3 years of almost daily use!
It’s starting to peel a little at the edges so I’ll probably replace it soon.
The first pic of the street side is actually still folded in half so it’s double what they show (you can see how the streets at the bottom are cut off).

This may sound a little odd, but real silicone spatulas for the kitchen (kid-sized). Babies love to teeth on them, use them as drumsticks, and fiddle with the bendy edges, and my toddler now loves to 'help' me in the kitchen with them. As he gets older, I'm sure he will continue to love hanging out in the kitchen with me, making more interesting food. And since the silicone is rated for high heat, it does everything from mixing, to cutting up brownies, to helping stir things in the hot pan.

I'd say play kitchen. We've had ours since DD1 was about 1. DD1 is now 3 and I've seen how her interactions with the play kitchen evolved as she grew. DD2 is loving it also now at 1, more so to just open cabinets and make a mess, but I know as she gets older they'll have tons of imaginative play together!
