@hellobeeboston: Yeah, we have the giant Costco size two-pack bottles of generic Mucinex and pop those bad boys all the time. I literally walk around whining to my husband that my face hurts and he frequently massages my face and forehead and sinuses after a long hot steamy shower so that it can help move and drain my gunk. I also gargle with the salt/baking soda solution to get that stuff flushing the other way too!

@gingerbebe: Thanks for sharing! I just heard about flonase and everyone swears by it! The humidifier is a great idea, i need to do that, I have one in my kids rooms, but not mine! I definitely have sinuses that are not right. Each cold gets "stuck" in my face, it won't drain... Despite using the neti pot every day... I'm scared to get another cold.

@hellobeeboston: I have chronic sinus issues (I have super narrow sinus passages) and we live in a high allergen area (rural agricultural setting, massive pollen counts, dust, etc). Sudafed makes me incredibly sick, so my constant sinus issues were turning into a vicious antibiotic/thrush cycle.

I use a neti pot religiously in the shower every day using 1/2 a teaspoon of a mix I make that's 50/50 sea salt and baking soda. I also take generic Allegra every day and use generic Flonase. This combo took me a long time to find, but its seriously saved my life the last few years. My husband never had allergies until we moved here and he's gotten on board with this combination too and now he wont travel without our neti pots.

We also use a cool mist humidifier in our room pretty much every night and swap out our HVAC air filters frequently.

@hellobeeboston: I got THE WORST reflux on doxy. I actually went to the ED because I worried about a cardiac event, since that sometimes mimics reflux in women.

@MrsADS: Oh wow, yeah, I truly learned the hard way!! it stinks because I'm allergic to a lot of antibiotics so there's only a few I can take, and every time I've gotten a cold lately it turns into a bad sinus infection :( Next time I'm going to see if there is something else I can take. And i will ALWAYS drink it with water from now on!

@hellobeeboston I have not taken doxycycline in a long time but when I did, I had this happen on a number of occasions. It is the WORST THING EVER. I learned to take it with a HUGE glass of water (like 10+ oz) AND at least an hour or so before going to bed. Glad you figured it out.

**** UPDATE ON THIS SITUATION.

In case anyone looks this up... what was so weird about this reflux/indigestion was that there was NO RELIEF for DAYS. I was taking Zantac, Prilosec, Tums, chewing fruit gum, ginger tea, etc etc... nothing helped.

I found out, self-diagnosed, that there is something called Pill-induced Esophogitis. I'm about 98% sure this is what happend. I'm remembering back to the night it started and after my bigger-than-normal dinner I popped my last doxycycline pill I was taking for a sinus infection, without water, and got in bed... So basically I think the antibiotic pill, without any water, got stuck and 'burned' my esophagus.... It took one entire week to heal, I couldn't eat anything for about 5 days lost 4 pounds, could barely drink water either, everything hurt. One week later, I was able to start eating again and the pain was fading, the reflux symptoms stopped around 5 days after. OMG.

MORAL: Do not take antibiotics without water, and immediately before going to bed. DUH.

Sounds like reflux. I had it while pregnant BADLY and then also randomly before and since. I actually have it a lot this week, I heard it could be exacerbated by seasonal allergies. Tums smoothies are my go-to.

I've found that a combo of zantac and tums worked best for me. Pasta sauce always gives me terrible heartburn.

Tums will give you relief instantly but it may not last long (sometimes it would only last about 30 minutes for me)

Zantac gave me relief in about 30 minutes and lasted all day.

So right when I would get heartburn I would take a tums to get rid of it instantly and then also take a zantac so it didn't come back.

@jhd: we had been dieting too.... No carbs at night, pretty light dishes. A big bowl of pasta/sauce/meatballs was the most I've eaten at night in a while. I've had sauce, but we were using zoodles or butternut squash instead, so I wonder if it was a combo of that, and me going to bed WAY earlier than normal and laying down so close to that meal.

@hellobeeboston: not sure if it's helpful but I'm doing a whole 30 now and feel better than I have in a while so maybe other things I was eating with the tomato sauce like cheese and pasta also made me feel bad too so maybe you won't have to be extreme like me and cut the sauce out completely! ;)

Can you ladies help figure out what's happening with me?

I think I'm having acid reflux for the first time ever, I have never had it before, and never got it with either pregnancy!

I woke up at 2am feeling like there was a lump in my throat, and some burning sensations... Felt like what I imagine indigestion/acid reflux would feel like. I got up and sat up for a couple of hours, had some milk and some water with baking soda - didn't have any TUMS, bought some today.

After a couple hours felt better, got back to sleep. Woke up with the same feeling and now it's 2pm and I can still feel it - like a burning in my chest and when I drink I have to burp a little to make room (if that makes sense)... like there is still a block in the bottom of. my throat.

Is this normal acid reflux/gerd???? What the heck.

I did eat a larger-than-normal dinner of pasta with red sauce and meatballs, and after bathing the kids and putting the younger one down I laid down in my bed on my phone for a while before going to sleep really early - so I laid down pretty quickly after eating... I've never had this reaction to pasta sauce but know it can happen... just seems weird that I'm still having symptoms this long after.
