We've had them. Not to freak you out but they can be fairly destructive. I've lost countless sweaters (wool and cashmere) and coats to them. Blankets with any sort of natural wool or alpaca fiber. They love dust and pet hair especially. I'd be on the ground with a flashlight finding and killing them but you can't see the eggs. Eventually I'd find something they'd been feasting on. We didn't get rid of them until we moved out of our prewar NYC apartment into a newer condo. You have to be really diligent with dust and corners and under beds/behind furniture.

Again, sorry to probably freak you out.

Another thing it could be is a flour beetle. I can't really tell from your pic. Be sure to save a few of them for an exterminator so they know what they are dealing with.

@starlitsky: they're gross. Because they stick we sometimes find dead ones in our clothes, like a sweater   I hate living in a buggy place and it's not as bad here as some places! But maybe check your clothes (especially animal fibers like wool) or near wherever you have seen adults because if you have adults the larvae are eating something. Also check all your windowsills for adults to see if you have more ... they tend to try to escape by following the natural light I've been told and then they'll die there. Sorry it's all so gross

Yep, it's a carpet beetle and they are a pain in the ass! The bug you've taken a picture of won't do any damage. It's the larvae that will cause damage to your clothes, rugs, etc. I've attached a pic of what the larvae look like. They have little hairs all around their bodies that can stick to things and some lucky people (like me) can have an allergic reaction to them. I was convinced we had bed bugs last summer and it turned out to be carpet beetles. They don't actually bite though, so that's the good news. They are actually quite common, but if you are finding them regularly I would call an exterminator to do a treatment.

We have those too  keep an eye out the larvae damage clothes (especially wool) and rugs. We live in Texas and can manage them but not totally get rid of them. We have quarterly pest treatment for all the critters here

Recently I've been finding this tiny bug around my house. In the bathroom and on the bed, on fabrics mostly (vs on the wall). I've found maybe 3 or 4 in the past week which doesn't sound like too many, but compared to before when I'd see hardly any, it's kind of scaring me! Should I be alarmed or look for an infestation?!
