She might have gone there once, on accident, and since you didn't catch it or clean it up, she decided it was still an ok spot to go. If that's the case, clean it up (I'm sure you already did) and keep her away from it.

@grizz: Oh I know, it's so difficult isn't it?! My husband's brilliant at it whereas I can be inconsistent (how can I resist this teeny cute face - on the sofa where she is not allowed to be!!) and as a result our dogs behave impeccably with him at all times but do try it on with me sometimes - I have to make a conscious effort!!

@Cherrybee: She was fixed as a puppy and she's 6 now. She is so rotten! I'm going to get the enzyme cleaner for the carpet...I'm afraid our rug is a lost cause due to the nubby high pile texture. I'm going to take your advice and start working with her tonight...She is so tiny I've let her totally run over me, so we've got to make it stop. Its hard when they're cute and little!

@grizz: Is it whole puddles of pee or little squirts?

It does sound like marking behaviour - especially if it's the little squirts of pee! Perhaps she's anxious about all the baby stuff because she can sense that a new person is coming into the home that is going to "outrank" her.... you just need to step up and be her leader in all areas of her life: Make her sit and stay before she gets her food, give her fusses when you want to not when she demands it, practice taking her toys/treats away (use your body language to "claim them" then step in and take them) then giving them back later, give her lots of exercise and practice having her walk beside you not out in front etc.

As for the pee - you will need to clean it up really well because the scent of her pee will attract her to urinate there again and again. I use diluted biological washing liquid to clean up accidents because the enzymes in it break down the pee.

Lastly - is she fixed? If not - how old is she? If she's a bit older, she might be in the habit of marking so spaying wont be the magical cure it would have been earlier in her life.... but if she's young it can really help.

oh yeah my little 4lb female dog lucy is the dominant one in the house, currently there are 3 other dogs in my house all at least two or three times her size. Females can mark for dominance for sure! But she might have done it there once because of the texture, and then she smelled her scent and just kept going there. Oh do i deal with this on a daily basis - it's gotten to the point where we are ripping up all the carpet through the entire house in a month now and putting in new flooring.

Is the carpet new? Sometimes dogs get off on the texture or if theres lots of new things it may be the change and new scents. My dog can tell if we bring a new throw pillow into our house in some random room-they dont miss a beat.. If you think its dominace, practice leadership and make sure doggy gets tons of excercise both physical and mental :)

My little dog (pug) marks all over my house. It's infuriating. It started when we moved in with my husband (then fiance) and his dog. It is definitely a dominance thing. Sadly, there hasn't been much we've been able to do to stop it. Soooo....now we put him in a diaper!

@MrsBrewer: @pui: Girl, but she is the dominant dog of the three even though our male dog outweighs her by about 60 lbs. she won't let the other two have food or toys til she's done.

Is the dog that's peeing a boy or girl? If it's a boy, maybe it can sense that new things are happening/new stuff is being moved in and he's marking his territory!

@LuLu Mom: That's right where our dog is peeing! We have baby things set up in our hearth room where the rug is, and the other pee spot is right in front of LO's room.

Our dog has started to pee in the hallway outside of LO's room or in her romo if the door is open, even though she is potty trained and knows to go outside. we believe it's because she feels like LO is taking over the house (she is) but we are trying to break this now, it's really annoying.

DH and I made a fun discovery the other day - One of our little dogs has been peeing all over our wool Pottery Barn rug and in our hallway! It looks like its been going on for a while - the color of the rug just hid it. Argh!

I don't know what the deal is. Someone is always home with her, she almost always asks to go outside, and she got a perfect bill of health from the vet. She has always known that she goes potty outside. I don't know if maybe all the baby stuff and commotion in and out of that part of the house is bothering her?

Anyone have any ideas on how to get her to shape her act up? We've never caught her doing it - we just know its her because (don't judge me for knowing this) our other little dog only pees in a puddle shape, and she pees in little streaks. I don't get it! Our baby gates for LO may be going up early so I can keep an eye on her sneaky self.
