I don't know about the parking, but I always stay back at a red light because a lot of people making left turns in front of my car seem to cut the corner and get too close for my liking :)

I always remembered from drivers ed that you should be able to see the tires touch the ground on the car in front of you! Which leaves quite a bit of space. I don't do that all the time but sometimes! I also wonder if some people are just plain horrible at judging and just don't know how close they are lol! Some people just prefer to stay back because if you get rear ended you are less likely to hit the car in front if you if you leave space.

I always park back a bit in parking spaces because I don't want to scrape my front bumper, but I'm always in my spot at least!

I seem to be noticing this a lot lately...people stopping at red lights waaaayyyyy back from the car in front of them. Like several car lengths. And I'm not tailgating them, but it comes as a surprise to me, plus it annoys me because it''s a total waste of space.

Also related, I've noticed that people are parking with their car only halfway/a third into the space so that their car actually sticks all the way out and you have to drive around. Is there a reason for this?
