Xander's allergic to milk, but we still keep milk products in the house. We're just careful to keep them out of his reach and/or watch him like a hawk when we have those items around where he can get to them.

Visiting family is tricky though. It makes me nervous to have Xander eat anything someone else prepared since I don't know for sure what they used. I'll ask and re-ask before I let Xander have anything, or reach the package if that's available! My parents are really good about making things dairy free though, just so Xander can try some! They even asked me to bring some of Xander's dairy-free butter for them to use at Thanksgiving so he can have stuffing and other items.

We also take food with us wherever we go because I'm nervous about his allergies! My mom was kind of offended when I said I'd be bringing food for Xander for Thanksgiving, but I want to ensure he has something that he CAN eat and that I know he actually WILL eat since he's at that picky toddler stage!

I'm allergic to shellfish and DH is allergic to bananas.

I pretty much am the only one who cooks in this house, and I'm not making multiple meals, so we may have the odd shrimp ring or something in the freezer, but it's a rare occurrence here.

We have bananas, but LO and I take them to work/daycare to eat them.

@jedeve: I am severely allergic to tree nuts! However in our house I am the only one. We don't bake or cook with them if I am home (so basically if I am gone for weekend things with nuts get made and the house decontamined. Otherwise it doesn't bother me if some else is eating them near me as long as they don't touch my person or food. My Dh is from Texas so pecan pie is a big part of his thanksgiving, he gets it like twice a year. He doesn't get to make them anymore because it is hard to find time for me to be away for him to make them. I feel a little bad but all well, such is life with allergies.

Now that LO is big enough to get into stuff, we don't have anything with peanuts in the house. We do have some stuff that says "may contain peanuts" that we eat and he does not.

Milk products we do keep in the house.

We *just* found out he is allergic to walnuts and pecans too. So I am not making pecan pie for Thanksgiving. My MIL still wanted to do a pecan topping for the sweet potatoes but I said no. It just seemed like too much to deal with along sure it kept out of everything else when people are messy cooks! On the other hand, I don't really expect them to purge their house of nit products either.

What do you do?
