I'm such a sucker for a themed party. I just haven't been to many. I've thrown a couple, but only at a novice level- Alice in Wonder, Wizard of Oz, Cinco De Mayo. Now, with the advent of Pinterest, I'm prepared to throw more elaborately themed parties and cannot wait!

@mrs. wagon: My mom once won $100 during an ugly sweater contest. The best part was that when she bought it the lady checking her out complimented her on it and said how beautiful it was. I also did one of those murder mystery parties for my 18th birthday. It was 70's themed though.

@twodoghouse: That sounds like so much fun! And how awesome that you raised so much money!

@chopsuey119: Those are super cute. I'd love to have some sort of book/fairy tail theme for LO one day too!

For the last few years, we've hosted a Price is Right theme party at our house in the summer. We've built up a collection of games - including a huge Plinko board that doesn't fit into our house and has to remain in the garage, the Mountain Climber game, the little putt putt golf game, some kind of clock game, some games where you guess the cost of items, a big wheel, etc. etc. People dress up (sometimes as Bob Barker, sometimes as contestants) and everyone gets those oversized nametags. Also, we go out and get a bunch of weird items from Goodwill for the Showcase Showdown which always has a funny/cheesy theme (travel, exercise, random cooking/kitchen stuff). And, the best part (I think) is that the whole night is fundraiser for our local Relay for Life organization. So we provide foods & drinks and when you play the games, depending on what you win or lose, you donate money. Last year we ended up raising almost $2000 that night.

I love themed parties. I love throwing them! We had an ugly sweater housewarming party (around Christmastime) and that was SO fun. Everyone really got into it and someone even came in Christmas long johns. The winner was a guy wearing an old woman's Christmas sweater with ornaments hanging off of himself everywhere. I think the most fun was shopping for my own ugly sweater... then wearing it (and keeping the tags on and returning it later, gulp) AND I bought gaudy snowman earrings too. I kept those! Haha. Oh and someone showed up in the exact same sweater as me!

We also threw a farewell party for my friend who was moving to LA to pursue acting. It was a black and white themed 20s party. We did a "how to host a murder" kit and assigned roles to all of her closest friends. We all wore costumes according to our characters and everyone was in black and white. We assigned a role to the guest of honor and bought her a costume and a big blonde wig. Rob Sr. was even a bartender with black suspenders and a big handlebar moustache. All the food, decorations, etc. were black and white and the party was such a huge success.

I especially love it when guests really get into it and come dressed up! People went to costume stores in huge groups that day and came in flapper costumes, zoot suits, etc.

I don't think I've ever met a theme I haven't liked. For my husband's birthday last year I threw a chick-fil-a themed party- I had cow print everywhere and of course yummy food from chick-fil-a.

LO's birthday will be garden theme, which I think is done a lot but it made the most sense for her because her name is Rose. Plus, she's just too young to pick her own theme so it was hard!

Once my SIL threw my brother a party all about him, and she served all of his favorite foods. It was awesome.

In the future I'm hoping LO will want a painting party, a baking party, and a camping party. Sadly, I'm already pinning these things on pinterest. But they seem like so much fun!

My favorite shower theme party that I helped throw was chocolate. Her wedding color was chocolate brown so we had tons of chocolate everywhere.

Are you into theme parties? What's your favorite theme?
