I go to zumba twice a week and bokwa once a week after LO has gone to bed in the evening. I go mainly for socialising, getting out of the house and to make myself feel like I'm doing something good for my body! But to be honest it doesn't do anything for my weight...the only thing that helps that is to be so careful about my calories!

I do barre, which is the first workout I have ever really loved. It keeps me toned and has been safe and doable (though it's tough!) throughout my pregnancy - even now at 36 weeks. I think if I really wanted to get like, super fit, I would need to incorporate more cardio. But overall, I am happy.

In my opinion, a supportive partner makes ALL the difference. If your husband has commented on your body, I would explain to him that you need his support and part of that is helping you find a time to fit in workouts. My husband loves when I am working out regularly because it keeps my mood swings in check like nothing else, lol. He is super helpful when it comes to making sure I get that time and I appreciate it so much (and tell him often!).

@irene: I also turn 40 this year. I met with my OB last year and told her my body was going to hell - she said yep your about to be 40 :bummed:

I have found that in my 20s I could eat and drink all day long and stay slim

In my 30's I could either watch what I eat OR exercise and stay slim

Now that 40 is on the horizon my OB told me I need to do BOTH - watch what I eat AND exercise.

I joined a gym and go 3 times a week from 7-8pm, DH watches the kids those times. I admit I hate going but once I am done I feel sooo good!!! Also, this kinda sucks but it motivates me - if you schedule a class and don't show up they charge you $10 - so, yeah, I have never missed a class!

I also only drink water now with an occasional diet soda (stop the juice, it has so many wasted calories!) I pack my lunch and have cut out chips and snacky foods. On the weekends I do let myself slide though.

Like you if I tried to work out at home I would get tired and just stop - I mean, no one is there holding me accountable.... Plus by going to the gym I get some me time which is nice too!

I am slowly seeing changes - I don't have much to lose but my stomach and hips/thighs need some serious toning.

I figure its now or never - so I just do it!

@BoogieBea: Yes but again I am a procrastinator so it is hard to find a solid slot (like now I am typing a response rathering switching to work mode. hahaha). I need to adjust my mentality so I actually finish work and make time for working out! Coming to think about it, I could actually go after husband takes LO to school at 7:30am- and work out until 8:30am. That is possible. The thing I liked to do is yoga but that doesn't burn too much calories... I like riding a bike too but I like riding outside instead of in a gym. I so wish I liked running but I really hated it. I like swimming but the process of getting in and out is so complicated I lost motivation. Haha! My Goodness! Me and my excuses!!!!!

@blackbird: Oh man, I do stay up until midnight.
The sucky thing is now, DS is even waking up at weird hours in the morning, like this morning at 4:45am asking to go poop. This morning when I was in a shower he ran in again asking me to help him to use the potty, and cried when husband offered to help. Grrr! Mommy will never get me time but that's another discussion at another time :(

@MamaChin: That is motivating. OK I will for sure check this out!! :)

@StbHisMrs: @irene: I do 21 day fix and have lost 13 pounds and 10 inches in 2 months. The hardest part is getting up before the kids but I always feel so good after my workout.

It's so tough finding time to exercise after having a kid. I haven't yet, but hope to soon. I did a couple of youtube videos when I was on maternity leave. It was called Blogilates. She has a website too with diet tips, etc. I think after I wean my LO I'm going to try it again.

Does your job permit you to workout during your lunch hour? I often do my workouts during lunch. Of course then I eat lunch in front of my computer but I normally do that anyway. You can just start with 20-30 minute workout and increase it as you feel comfortable. Also, having a partner who supports your desire to workout more helps a lot too. We often take turns on the weekends where one person works out and the other stays with the kids. You'll still have the rest of the day for family time.
When I need to get back into the workout groove, taking classes always helps me. Because once I sign up for a class, it's more likely that I'll follow through. Is there a sport that you like? Can you do something related to that sport so that it's enjoyable?

I get up at 5:15 three times a week to go to a 5:45am crossfit class. And i go once on the weekend. It's my "me" time and i love it. I live in a small apartment and I am able to get out the door without waking my son or husband.

@blackbird: That's good information!

@StbHisMrs: @lawbee11: No I don't know about those programs! I should check them out thank you! I disliked following a DVD to work out though (yes, another excuse of mine) as most often I'd probably quit when there is no real pressure. But I should suck it up and check it out as my muffin top is becoming an issue now.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: No and that's because husband doesn't even get home from work until 7:30pm.... Part of the reason why I don't have time to work out is also because I am a procrastinator... I have to admit! I am a WAHM too (LO goes to daycare though) and if I am more disciplined I am sure I can find a slot to go work out! Not sure about 3 times a week though! And kudos to you you actually work AND take care of your baby! I still can not phantom how other moms are able to do that!

@autumnleaves: You are so dedicated. I will NOT even think about doing anything else when I was still pumping and breastfeeding and all. Seriously how do all of you wing it???

I get up at 4:30am twice during the work week to go work out - there is an aerobics class at 5:45 am that is not far from my house but I need to allow time to finish cleaning bottles and pump or nurse before I go. Evenings don't work as well for me for a variety of reasons including rush hour traffic, the witching hour for LO, and also I enjoy spending time with both DH and LO when they are awake.
If I work out 3-4 times a week I feel much better than if I work out less than 3 times a week.

@irene: you couldn't go before bedtime?

I can't go that late, either. And I like sleep way too much to get up at 4:30 in the morning.

I worked backwards to find my schedule.

8pm, DD2 goes to bed
7:30pm I nurse DD2
6ish-6:30pm we have dinner
5:15 DH gets gome from work
- I WAHM during the day-
7:30am DH leaves for work
7am DD2 is up for the day
6:30am DH gets ready for work

If I wanted to get an hour in at the gym and give DH time to get ready for work, I'd have to leave at 5:30. No thanks. My youngest is 6.5m and while she normally sleeps through the night, there's the occasional time she wakes up to eat. I also enjoy alone time & down time, so there are nights that I stay up late (midnight!), or maybe I'll stay up late working like you. Whatever the reason, I like my sleep too much to get up and work out at 5:30 in the morning. I did it before kids & agree with @blackbird: that it totally jump starts your whole day ..... but this mama is too tired. :silly:

But, writing out my schedule helped us realize I have a window of time from 5:15-6:30 to exercise. My youngest naps from 2-4:30, so that gives me time to play with my oldest and get my gym clothes on. Then it's a matter of nursing DD2 when she wakes up and walking out the door when DH gets home. We've got it down to a science!

I'm 19 months PP and still up a good 4-5 lbs from pre-preg weight. While I was BFing I did 30DS (but didn't diet) and was back to pre-preg, but after I weaned I gained some of that back. I used to lose weight SO easily so these last few lbs are really giving me a run for my money. I know it's not the end of the world, but I'd really like to be back to pre-preg soon.

I would have to wake up insanely early to have time to go to the gym and shower before work, so that's a big fat no. I do workout videos after LO is in bed (30DS is my fave) and it's worked really well for me. It incorporates strength training and cardio, so I've really toned up with the program. If I just did cardio I'd burn calories but it would do nothing for toning.

But I partially work out so that I can indulge, too. Because life is too short to cut carbs :silly: I eat more healthy than unhealthy meals, but I've got a mean sweet tooth and I'm not afraid to splurge. I have a daughter and I'm also trying to set an example that there aren't "bad" foods and there's nothing wrong with a treat here and there.

@irene: My kids are light sleepers, but somehow don't wake up while I'm working out in the livingroom. Have you looked at the 21 Day Fix? I haven't tried it, I love Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, but I never stick to it long enough. This is the longest I've stuck to any workout (3 weeks) and I see a slight difference. I need to be bikini ready by May! I'm pulling out my DVd's tonight even though I'm sick.

My Husband says cardio to lose, then strength to tone.

@irene: well......yoga only burns about 150-200 calories a session. So it isn't really a fat burning exercise. But it can make you more conscious of how you eat and feel in general, plus increase your strength and flexibility. And if you enjoy it, that matters a whole lot!

Thank you for everyone's feedback!!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: That's because LO doesn't go to sleep after we put him to bed - and he goes to bed at 8pm. He would keep getting up and want this and that and wouldn't settle until 9pm or most of the time beyond 9:30pm. He usually only wants me and would throw a fit if husband goes in. But I guess I could talk him into the idea of mommy has to go out 3 times a week. The other reason is I continue to work after he goes to bed....

I'm another one where the weight didn't fly off while BFing. I have 10 pounds to go until my BFP weight. I've been running twice a week for the past year and am trying to get back up to 3 times a week. You just have to get moving. Even going for a long walk every day will benefit you. Logging your food intake will be eye-opening as well.

I don't have one and it's working perfectly for me right now. :silly:

I would never be able to do what @blackbird: does and get up early. I've never been a morning person. Before I got lazy about working out (so, um before I had a kid) I was doing at-home workouts daily, yoga, barre workouts, or HIIT workouts I found online. I especially loved using my kettlebell. It worked, along with eating right.

I need a new routine. There are a lot of gyms near my job, I have a friend who works for the same company so she wants me to come to her gym with her and join her WW group. I'm thinking about it. I'm also thinking about the 21-day fix. Who knows what will work? I think the key is being consistent--I need help with that part.

@blackbird: You are so dedicated! And thanks for the tips!
What else other than lifting weights would lose weight? Running and how about cycling? Or is cycling not enough?
I truly hate working out the talk of thinking about doing it gives me a headache! Haha.
Talking about being self conscious about snacking.... man I can really use a snack right now :crying:

@irene: I'm sneaky :) I put my gym clothes in the bathroom and close the door so I can get dressed without the light bothering DH. My bag is packed and sitting by the door to the garage. E sleeps with a white noise machine on. I open the door to the garage, then open the garage, and close the door to dull the sound. It's never woken anyone up! Then I sneak out!!! I drink some pre work out powder stuff before I go in that's caffeinated so I'm ready to go by the time I get there!

I know its early, but getting up is the hardest part. It wires me up for the day! Then I crash hard around 830/9....

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Thank you! So I guess I have to join a gym to make it work. I was just thinking of going to the attic and do sit-ups lol

This really sucks because I'd really have to get up at 4:30am! :(

Do you park outside of your house on gym dates so you can dash out without opening the garage? My neighborhood had car break-ins before so I am not sure about that!

Look I guess I am just making excuses for all the above lol

@irene: haha if only we could put orders in for where the fat goes!

I meant your eating habits or starting to exercise. If you find something you like, you'll stick with it. Nothing will change if you don't make changes. Or at least start by tracking your food and what you're doing so you can figure out where you're sabotaging yourself!

Ditto everything @blackbird: except the lipo. I never did that. :silly:

I fall into the category of moms who don't lose weight while BFing. I've been EBF for six months now and haven't shed a single pound from it.

In January I joined the gym and started going three times a week. No excuses, except the six weeks my youngest had RSV and was continually sick. I set a schedule: Sunday evenings, Wednesday & Friday. I try to go Saturdays, too. I like to go right at 5:15 and go for an hour, so I'm still home in time for dinner and bath time and bedtime. I make sure to be ready so I can leave right when my husband gets home.

Going to the gym kind of changed my eating habits without me even trying. I stopped snacking as much at night. I made small purposeful changes, like cutting out cravings (I could eat nachos all the time. It's horrible.).

I'm down 8lbs in three months (minus the six weeks I never made it to the gym), my clothes for better and my energy level is WAY up. I have a long way to go but the results were shockingly fast.

@blackbird: Thanks! And very good information that the fat will not come back in belly but WILL go somewhere. Hmm. Can it go to my boobs? hahaha. I would be devastated if it goes straight to my arms....

I do not have faith that I can change my life habits..... we do shop at whole foods but I also drink a lot of juices and I eat carbs at night... I guess I will have to try harder...

"Starting there will likely net you some serious results" as in lipo or work out?

I had some contouring via smart lipo probably 8 years ago. It was awesome because I was lean but had this one pocket that would not go away. So they fixed it. Lipo removes fat cells so they won't come back, but you have to maintain your weight or you'll look uneven. If you don't change your habits, it won't do you much good. You'll just be fat elsewhere you know? The fat will go somewhere else!

Seriously, what works for me is tracking my food, counting calories and macros in specific proportions, and exercising hard. I lift heavy weights and I do high intensity interval training. I bust my ass and do whatever it takes. I get up at 430 am before DH and E, or I go at 730pm. BUT this isn't a new thing to me. I know it works. I also realize it is more work than a lot of people want to commit to.

If you've never worked out or really watched your diet before, starting there is will likely net you some serious results. Your diet is the most important thing!!! Whole foods, healthy proportions, swapping for water. Start small so it's not overwhelming

This article really made me think:

http://nestingstory.ca/what-having-four-kids-including-twins-has-done-to-my-body-and-my-confidence/

This lady said, she woke up before everyone in the house does in order to exercise to get back to shape. I can't help but wonder, how is that possible when you have 5 other people in the house? You must have to wake up at 5am if not earlier because kids would wake if they hear noises early in the morning. Maybe she has a big house.

Since having a child my body was actually OK especially during the first 1.5 years of my child's life. I was breastfeeding, so my breasts were pumped and my tummy was actually flatter than before pregnancy because of all that calories I was burning from breastfeeding. That's what those breastfeeding sources tells you that's one of the benefits of breastfeeding. HOWEVER, they never told you that your body rebounds AFTER you are done with breastfeeding, or at least that's what I experienced. Since around my son was 2 years old, my husband started commenting that my belly is getting big. I didn't pay attention to him but then I do see myself in several pictures that I am developing a muffin top, which I have never had before! And yes my belly is now so prominent. It's like all the fat in my body got the memo to go hang out in my belly / muffin top, because they got "stretched" somehow. My boobs are flatter than before breastfeeding.... :crying: I don't know if I should blame aging (I turned 40 this year!) or pregnancy has a part to blame.

I never cared about exercising before and I have to say I was blessed to be naturally on the thinner end. However, these days I felt like I needed to do something. Unfortunately, from being a mom to working all the time, and stressing out because I am not making as much money as I used to be pre-baby, I have no time to take care of myself. I don't even have time to look at the mirror before I dash out of the house nowadays to be honest. So I wonder what do you guys do with exercising, and does it work for you? If it works, maybe I somehow have to start getting up at 5am, sigh.

And to be honest, I even talked to my husband about liposuction because I am so sick of my muffin top and have no time to deal with it via exercising. Did anyone even contemplated to try / researched about it / tried it / or know a lot about it? Would the fat come back if you don't keep exercising or does it just go away completely?
