@Reese: same as you

I'd rather spend more money on a higher quality item, like my shoes, because they will last me longer than a cheapo pair from Payless that I'll hate wearing every minute because they're so uncomfortable and then just fall apart the second time I wear them.

Depends... especially on quality..

Jeans: $130ish
Jacket: $350ish
Shirt: $40 - $80
Purse: $100 (unless it is a trusted designer - I will spend more)
Shoes/Boots- $150

Although sometimes my flinch factor could be a lot less. If I am expecting a low quality piece at a low quality price and it is $25 .. no thanks.. I would rather spend a bit more and have it last..

It depends on the item and sale. I'm more willing to buy a say $40 item that I really like that's on sale from $100, than a regular $20 items that I'm not crazy bout. Usually tops are around $20. Jeans $100. Coats $150. Shoes $40.

I think I have a separate flinch point and scoff point.

I feel really hesitant about purchasing any clothing item over $30. Any even vaguely impulsive purchase is below that price point. I do make planned, considered purchases over that price point on a regular basis though.

Over $70? It'd better be a winter coat or plated in gold.

I do have a whole different rubric for shoes though. I'm a nurse, and comfy shoes might be the most important thing in the world. I would pay $350 for shoes that were really comfortable and built for the long haul.

For clothes for myself, individual items... I can't seem to spend more than $25 without flinching. Unless it's for a special occasion and then all bets are off!

I've started appreciating higher quality items that will last me longer than cheap stuff. Gap jeans on $60 and all I wear but I am usually able to find them at least 40% off. Shirts...I really hesitate to spend over $15-20 on at this point because I feel like there's a high probability that my daughter will do something to ruin it. I hate buying shoes. They seem so expensive to me and it pisses me off to have to spend that much on something.

Right now, while I'm still trying to lose baby weight, I'm super cheap. My fat wardrobe mainly consists of Old Navy sale items with an extra 30% off. But normally, I'll spend $100+ on jeans, $50+ for a sweater, but no more than $30 on a shirt. I spend good money on shoes, though, because I invest in quality ones. I don't own many shoes or coats, but the ones I have should last forever.

I guess vacillate wildly on how much I spend on clothes. I never spend a lot on purses, because I just don't care about them. But for a dress I like, I tend to think under $100 is a good deal, lol. And I've spent more on jcrew or banana republic or club Monaco dresses.

Before I was preggers, I wore dresses/skirts 98% of the the time, so I get a lot of use out of them. For my maternity clothes, I consider $30-$49 to be a good deal.

But I also love Target and buy lots if stuff there. =)

Usually $30 is my limit for anything - found a really nice top to wear to a wedding that was $50, I continued shopping and found a different one for $20 instead! My last pair of pants cost me $20. I rarely buy myself anything though which is why my wardrobe is looking rather bare.

Anything full-price makes me flinch. As far as clothing goes, I rely on DH to make me spend a little more. I've noticed that spending $90 on a pair of jeans instead of $25 makes a huge difference in how they look (and how long they last), but that still makes me cringe. Shoes have to be cheap, less than $40 unless I really need them or I'm in love with them.
Now that I'm in maternity clothes, the biggest splurge I've made so far was $32 on a pair of leggings (yikes!)

It depends, but my flinch point usually starts at an item being full price (unless I really really need it) then depending on the item, $50 is usually the highest I will go unless it's for a special occasion or something I'll get more use out of.

I think around $100 is where I think twice about buying a sweater, shoes, or a pair of jeans. I'll spend more though if it is a quality piece. Shirts I usually hesitate past $50. I definitely have some inexpensive items, but I think higher quality pieces last longer. If it is a classic item then I have less of an issue spending money on it. If it is a trendy item then I am much more conservative in my spending.

I am glad I am not the only one! I feel like reading some blogs I get the impression that people think $50 for a top is a bargain sometimes and I was beginning to think I was not even close! I think I need to make a list of stuff I need and just agree to but it if it fits and is on sale- even if it isn't $5.

@Arden: I needed to be cheap for a long time but now even when I have the budget for a few nicer pieces I can't bring myself to do it! I start thinking that instead of spending $80 on pants I could grab a clearance shirt and pants and we could go out to dinner! It would be one thing if I could do that and look nice but I keep winding up with things that aren't suited to me.

It really depends on the item and the brand. Certain brands I'm willing to pay a little more for as well as items.

I'm always willing to spend more on jeans - the most I've spend was $130 but that was A LOT even for me. And I don't ever spend that much on jeans without planning to, so at that point I wouldn't "flinch". If I was just randomly shopping and trying on jeans I wouldn't spend more than $50 probably.

Basics like shirts I'm more cheap and won't spend more than $5. Especially if it's clearance/sale - I expect stellar deals!

Special occasion items I will spend a little more... like I bought an outfit for Cobi's birthday, it was $25 for the jeans, $30 for the sweater and $20 for the shirt. That's definitely more than I would normally spend!!

Depends on the item. For bras, about 30$, and jeans about 40$. Now that I'm in maternity wear though, I've gotten cheap as heck. Other than pants, anything over 10$ is a no-go. I'm only gonna wear it for a few months! Target maternity clearance is my BFF right now lol!

Aside from my wedding dress, the most expensive clothing item I've bought was a wool coat for like $175. I'm pretty cheap.

I have clothes I've had since I was 15. This is out of necessity though, not because I want to shop this way. If we had more money, I would spend more on some really high quality staples, like good jeans and shoes and coats.

Depends!
I've bought coats that are nearly $400 (leather or ski jackets)
And I've bought bras that are $70
But then again those are rare & few..
I would never buy expensive socks or camis or anything....I wear those out way too much to spend good money on them.
I love a good deal so I always hit up sales and bring my shopper's pass and all that;)
