I don't force my children to do sports (or anything, really) that they don't like. Especially not just because I've paid for them. My mother did that with me, and it made me despise physical activity and quit it as soon as I had the power to.

A lot of it would depend on the reason - esp if it had to do with a teacher or coach. If I felt like that instructor's style was dampening my kid's spirit or making them feel bad about themselves I'd pull them in a hot second and probably have some chats with the teacher, but if it's like I just wanna quit, I'd most likely make them finish the session or season.

That said, I don't really think I want to put my kid in formal activities until they are a bit older, except like Parent and Me type swim classes or tumbling once a week for fun.

She'd have to finish out the session (most activities I see are between 1 and 3 months long), especially if I paid for it.

I think it's based on age for me right now. She's 3 so if we signed up for a class or team and she wasn't into it, I'd let her quit right away. There are so many factors that could go into a little one's enjoyment of an activity. If we did soccer and then quit, I may ask her if she's interested at a later date and try a different time/place/organization. By 5/6 I'd encourage her to finish out the session/season unless there was a real problem.

We've been in gymnastics for 5 months now and my daughter LOVES it, we always said we would keep going as long as she's enjoying hersself. It got me thinking, if your child hated an activity, how long would you continue doing it? (something that is month by month basis?)

For me, I would make her wait out 3 months to decide unless it was a team activity then she would complete the season (I was always raised you never quit on your team and I will be following that mentality.)
