DH and I haven't been on a road trip since we were dating! That was a 4-5 hour drive to the beach to go camping and we failed miserably. We both got burned SO badly that we didn't even stay the night and we drove inland to find a hotel. FAIL.

This summer, we are driving 18 hrs to Vail, CO for a week! I'm so effing excited! Summer in TX is so unbearable and I can't wait to get out of the heat. We are going to be staying in a condo with my bro, sis in law and my nieces! It's going to be so much fun! I'm totally not looking forward to the 18 hr drive though. We'll see how that goes!

Yeah, I could do a long road trip. My family has drive out to Michigan since I was tiny, which is a 8-10 hour drive. It never fazed me. When I was 3, my parents and I drove from our home in York, PA out to Spokane, WA. But hubs isn't really into long stretches in the car. We're driving to the Outer Banks this fall for a wedding, and that's probably about the furthest we'll do (about 8 hours). Unless we rent an RV and drive cross-country, which is something I would LOVE to do when the kiddos are older!

I think I could do a pretty lengthy road trip. When I was younger, my dad took our family from OKC to Chicago for a work conference, but at the conclusion we decided go to Lansing, MI to visit family since it was "close". Once we were in Lansing, Toronto was only a few hours away to so we drove there. Niagara Falls wasn't far off from Toronto so we went there. You get the trend, we ended up going to NY, PA, NJ, DE, MD, VA, TN, MO, AR, then back home. It was THE best road trip ever!!

Now hubby and I took a road trip to CO back in college for a ski trip then decided to drive across 3 states just to eat at Food Network's #1 BBQ joint. Thank goodness gas was cheap back then.

I did an awesome road trip with my sister after I graduated high school. We went from Florida to Colorado and back. We had an idea of what we wanted to do, but left room to be spontaneous. We were pretty poor so for the most part we lived off of Pb&j sandwiches and a huge box of cheese its from Costco. We camped out most of the time. We saw all the touristy stuff like the worlds largest cow.

I would love to do something like that with my family some day. But I'd want to eat better food.

I don't mind long roadtrips if the destination is good. We live in Toronto and years ago, we drove 17 hours to Prince Edward Island (stopped for a night in Quebec City, where he proposed!). It was soooo much fun! We stayed in PEI for 5 days and drove all around the province...Went further to New Brunswick and made the trek back home. I LOVED it!

But now that we have LO, the max I'll go is 3 hours away.

I'm not much of a car traveller, but I had a great time going to Breckenridge, CO with a friend to ski one time, we had to leave later than the rest of the group. We laughed and jammed out to music from our high school/college days. Those 10 hours went very fast!

@Shimmer: Darn! You totally took my answer about the airport. :)

I really enjoy roadtrips with my husband. He doesn't get cranky about needing to stop every so often and he does all the driving. We always have a great time because it forces us to be together and not be overly distracted so we have good conversations. We never laugh more than when we're driving together. This makes me excited for our 3.5 hour trip we're going on this weekend.

My husband and I would love to do a road trip around the US - maybe in our golden years ;) I don't mind being in the car but you are so right when it comes to being with someone fun. My younger brother is the worst road trip partner out there, he sleeps the whole time!!!

The longest road trip I've done so far was Charlotte, NC to Miami, FL with my husband, for a cruise, when we were still dating. We stopped in Daytona on the way down for a night and Savannah on the way back. It was tons of fun!

When I lived up north, it was so much easier to road trip! In New England, you can get to so many places within a few hours. From Maryland, we could hit multiple different destinations in just an hour or two! From NC? Whomp Whomp. I guess it would be to the mountains or beach. Even the mountains are far, though from here!

I live in Atlanta, but my husband and I would love a roadtrip where we jump in the car, drive to San Diego and never go back to Atl. That would be ideal for us :P....We miss our old stomping grounds!

Hahaha I read the title and thought "the time it takes to get to the airport to go on vacation!"

I think I could only handle 3-4 hours, max. I get antsy pretty quickly and DH is the same!

My husband and I do pretty well on road trips together, 4-5 hours is ideal but we do 8-10 hours a few times a year to see family. Ideal for me is leaving mid morning and stopping somewhere cute for lunch, arriving in a small town on the water just before dinner. Audio books are the key for us!

Every year my family would drive the 10 hour car trip to my grandmother's beach house. It was all 7 of us in a minivan, making the round trip two or more times a year, for over 20 years. Then there was Thanksgiving vacation every other year, which was a 7-9 hour car ride.

By comparison, driving around Ireland with my husband for three weeks was a carefree lark with the leprechauns. I'm used to long car trips now, but I'm tired of them! My ideal would be a chauffeured drive to the airport. :P

For me, it'd have to be somewhere that's about 2-3 hours away... and with someone who is fun to be around. If you're gonna be trapped in a car with someone, ideally they are a fun person! Or they share your taste in music haha!

I'm not a fan of huge road trips. I used to drive to college sometimes, and that could be a 10 hour plus drive! Boo... after a while, I wised up and started taking the train.

What is your ideal road trip? Both length of drive, and where you'd want to go... and who you'd want to go with too!
