I was born in the summer and *love* having a summer birthday, but for us having a spring baby made the most sense b/c the timing works with various career constraints. In most parts of the country there are definitely weather related concerns for being very pregnant during certain months, but around here in NorCal there aren't dramatic temperature swings throughout the year.

I'm psyched to be having a May baby (for many of the reasons Mrs. Jacks mentioned). We tried for awhile to get pregnant, so I would have taken any month....but happy that it turned out to be May! Don't have to show off my pregnant cellulitey legs in shorts/skirts/bathing suits...time to hunker down on the weekends and plan for the baby in the crappy NE weather...and then get to enjoy my time with the baby this summer while on maternity leave : )

I enjoyed being pregnant in the summer. She was born Sept. 1st Stayed inside the whole time in the air, eating ice cream or going to the pool.LOL!

I hate winter and I'm sure being pregnant then would depress me even more than winter usually does.

Whenever my body lets me become pregnant. :P
Honestly, I hate being pregnant, so if we do this again, the timing will be more about my body/cycle than about when during the year I'd prefer to have a newborn.
I don't like having to buy lots of big warm clothes for the winter, but I'm sure I'd be equally unhappy being big in the summer and having my belly be out there for everyone to see.

Negative nancy over here. Yup.

We got pregnant in late June/early July. Ds was born late at the end of March. It was the perfect time. We didn't go out a lot in the first few weeks when ds was really litle, but then it was already getting warm out. DH is a teacher so I ended up taking 12 weeks off and went back to work in June when DH was starting his summer vacation. It was perfect.

I agree with RescueMom, since I live in the Seattle area, too. I also wanted to make sure I was on maternity leave during the winter months because of how scary it can get when it snows. *clears throat* Like it did this week.

In WA where I live it does not get that hot or that cold. So temp wise I am pretty neutral here. Guess ideal would maybe be get PG end of summer time frame. Just because the summer here is sooooo nice here you really want to get out and enjoy it while it's here.

I feel like our July- early March baby is pretty ideal timing. I was only barely pregnant during the summer (not that it gets that hot in Manchester), and I've been pregnant through the cold and our baby will come right when it starts to be spring!

My May baby was perfect! Pregnant during cold weather and baby protected by me during RSV season from illness. Then when the weather is getting nice you deliver the baby and you get out of the house without the worry of getting the little one sick.

I'm worried about having a February baby.

For me a May/June baby would be perfect. My husband is a teacher, and I would love for him to be home with me for 3 months. The month I would least like to have a baby is Dec.

I got pregnant in August and am due in May. While having a spring baby means we can do lots outside with him when he's a baby and not be trapped in the house, I hated that I spent all of September and October sick and on the couch! Around here that is the best time of year to be outside since it's not too hot and hasn't gotten cold yet. Instead, I'm spending my second trimester (when I'm feeling great!) cooped up inside since it's cold.

Next time, I want to get pregnant in November or December so I can spend the worst part of winter snuggled up on the couch when I'm sick, and then be able to be outside and swim when I'm feeling good. Also, When I'm nice and big I can live in sun dresses instead of having to find pants and a top that fit. The baby would be born in August or September when it is still warm and we'd have a few months to be outside before winter sets in again!

i got pregnant in beginning of july and will probably give birth in march. everyone says that's very ideal. you're trapped in your house the first few months and winter is just passing by into spring.... i'm happy with my dates. =) had my shower last week and the weather was nice! =) perfect timing - right before this huge snowstorm.

I wanted to be pregnant in the cooler months so I would be more comfortable (it's usually in the 100's in summer here, and summer lasts through October most years). That plan backfired on me a little bit since we're having such a mild winter this year (it's mid-Jan and it's in the 70's right now - huh?). And another thing that was tough for me was going through the holidays not able to drink. For some women, their craving for an alcoholic beverage goes away, but for me, it just got stronger so it was tough going through Halloween, my birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years without a drink, but that's just me.

If I could I'd have my little one on July 7. It's exactly 4 months between my husband birthday, and 4 months between mine. And seeing as we're both born on the 7th, it would be awesome. It's also two days before my Nana's birthday and she would be over the moon about that.

@Rubies: yeah I was thinking either July baby or April... so I get the 12 weeks of FMLA.... if it's a July baby, I won't be going back to work until after Thanksgiving (just like this time with Eli) and if it's April baby I'll just take the 12 weeks so I won't be going back to work until September... we discussed that we want our LOs to be 2 - 3 years apart... so we'll see!

I actually think my pregnancy (August-April) is the perfect time. I am super hot during this pregnancy, so it's perfect during these cold temperatures for me (I used to be cold all the time).

Also, I'll be giving birth around Easter as temperatures get higher so I'll be able to go outside and enjoy the sun. (My boss had her baby in October and hated being stuck inside all day with the baby during the dark and cold days). My DH is a teacher and it works perfectly that my maternity leave will end in early July and he'll be home with the baby until school starts in September.

Thoughts on my winter baby (early Feb)... Pros: being homebound in the winter -- I didn't mind staying in with the newborn a lot in the winter because it was too cold to go out and do anything fun anyways and by the time she was ready to go out more (3+ mos), it was spring!, not having to deal with extreme heat during late pregnancy (it can really exhaust you). Cons: winter maternity wear can be more expensive (pants, coats, sweaters), bundling up a winter newborn (lots of layers, accessories, winter gear), birthday parties always restricted to being indoors (where we live).

Thoughts on my summer baby (early July)... Pros: announcing pregnancy around the holidays (Thanksgiving or Christmas) is nice, wearing lots of dresses in the 3rd tri, easy to dress up a summer newborn vs a winter newborn, baby's birthday parties can be outdoors (a huge plus compared to having a winter baby... where we live). Cons: the heat can really exhaust you when you're pregnant, newborn stage during the summer -- it was nice to go out for walks, but I was a bit homebound and felt like I missed out on summer completely and by the time she was old enough to start going out more, fall/winter was upon us, birthday parties won't be during school year and many of her friends may be on vacation.

So I've had two babies, in winter and summer months (both at the peak of each season)... My next will hopefully be born in early spring (April/May)... I think that's ideal!!

I was pregnant from late March to mid December. It was great weatherwise because I wasn't huge in the hot summer months, although we had a cool summer. I did fine with the clothes I had, I was able to wear shoes until the end, albeit I had some ankle swelling so that meant I couldn't wear boots as often as normal.

I was nervous to be stuck in the house in January, February and March, but we had the warmest winter in years, I was out with just a fleece for most days.

Now, it's a total pain to deal with a December birthday. That's the worst, so much to plan if you have a party and do stuff for the holidays.

i got pregnant end of july and gave birth in april. i think that was great. i was able to hide my growing belly really well in warm clothes and then when she was born it wasn't too cold or too hot to be outside i think giving birth in the winter must be hard since you can't even push the baby around the block in a stroller for very long.

I think having a summer baby would be the best...the weather is nice so you can be outside, and you can wear loose jersey material dresses and skirts. But at this point, I don't really care when I have a baby--I just want one! :)

@reggie: I'm a teacher, too! We had a summer baby as well - August 1st! And for #2, too, we want a summer baby...Or, a February to coincide with the change in semester.

I liked having being "big" in my pregnancy in the summer - I was able to get away with stretchy t-shirts and tanks. It was hot but manageable!

I don't think there is a perfect time. I had my lo in July in Florida so it was crazy hot, but I spent a lot of time in the pool. I liked wearing flip flops with my swollen feet, and I couldn't imagine having to pull on tights when I couldn't touch my toes in the end. We won't plan a time for the next one, we'll just ttc when we're ready.
