I work 40 hours a week, but I can do my job, and well, in less time. I don't see the point in just sitting here to make appearances. Working from home 1-2 days a week, would greatly help.

@septca: I would still be full-time and in-office, but I wish my job were more transactional (and thus more predictable and flexibile) . . . !

I am sorry to post and run... It's so interesting how many of you would like to work part time, even for part time pay!

I voted in the poll, but my ideal situation would be full autonomy. I want to work full-time (about 35-45 hours/week and would be willing to check email more often than that), but I want to have more control over when and where I work. Working from home 2 days a week would be ideal, and I'd like to work in the office 9:30-4:00 and then work more from home in the evenings. Basically, I want my next job to be one where I am fully employed and fully engaged, but there is no one looking over my shoulder as I punch a time clock.

Oh, and I would keep full-time childcare.

My ideal would be to work from about 10 or 10:30 am to 3 or 3:30 pm, with the ability to telecommute when I want/need to. The things I find most stressful about being a WOHP are the morning rush and only having a few minutes with DD in the evenings before it's time to do bath and bedtime. Being able to work shorter days would solve both problems. It would be a little tougher financially with her still going to daycare and me not making quite as much, but we could probably swing it. Just wish my job would offer it...

I have a very long commute, and already work from home one day per week, so I want to adjust that a little.

I'm really hoping my bosses will let me go part-time, and work 4 days a week, with 2 office days and 2 WAH days. I'd love to do only 3 days per week, but I don't know that they'd go for that!

In a perfect world, I would be a SAHM, especially because DH is a college professor and gets those really long summer and winter breaks that would be SO amazing to spend together as a family. But we can't do that quite yet.

We are pregnant with LO#1 right now and I have a job that does not allow for telecommuting, so we're trying to figure out how this will work once I return to the office. I think I'm leaning towards a M-F, 8:30am-12:30pm schedule with no lunch break (20 hours per week), or a T,W,Th schedule from 8:30am-4pm with a 30 minute lunch (21 hours per week). This is mostly to accommodate daycare drop off/pick up times. Working half-time would make a modest contribution to my pension, pay for daycare, and cover my student loan payment. That would basically be it. Hence I am REALLY looking forward to paying Sallie Mae off ASAP! (DH's loans are another story).

I already work from home, but I'd also love to drop down to 3-4 days per week at some point, maybe after having 2 kids. And while I'm working full-time, it'd be nice if there were no expectations on the schedule my hours are completed, so I could run errands when needed during week and make it up at night and weekends.

@mrs. tictactoe: my old school district used to let teachers "job share". As in, they shared 1 job and each worked part time. Summer and school holidays still off.

I really, really wish I could do that.

Ideally, if we could afford it, I'd like to work part time, maybe 20-25 hours per week, but still have the same breaks I have now as a teacher. It's never going to happen, but it's nice to dream!

I would 100% love to work exactly part time, but a full day on the days I work. Like...Monday, wednesday, and every other Friday. Or Tuesday, Thursday, every other Friday.

If money is not an issue I would definitely want to SAH.

But since it is an issue, I'd love to still work 40 hours and be full-time, but work WAH 3 days a week. It will offset perfectly w/ DH's schedule (he can be home 2 days a week, more or less).

I'd like a mix of working from home and the office, 32 hours a week. I'd be okay with the pay loss, it would be somewhat offset by wear and tear and gas for the car and eating out while at the office.

I would like to be in the office 1 day a week with WFH the rest of the time. I could do 2 and 2.

I'd love to be work from home! I feel like I'm so much more productive that way. I'd still work 40 hours since I need the benefits and pay, but at my own schedule. For example, if I had a bunch of data on hand, I'd work more hours that day vs a slower day when I'm waiting on data.

If you could choose to work whatever schedule you wanted, what would you pick?

Caveat 1: Your salary adjusts with your choice. For example, if you want to work 30 hours a week, your salary would be reduced to 75% of what you would make working full time.
Caveat 2: You don't have to worry about childcare.
