Our toddler storytime has a theme (either bugs, or rain, or firetrucks, for example). The librarian has a felt board up and talks about the theme. She usually puts some felt items on the board and then reads book #1.

Then we do a song or hand dance kind of thing, then felt board #2, and book #2. If the kids are antsy, then she has them get up and shake/dance.

I don't know what it's like, because our nanny takes LO, but I know that whatever they do there, he's happy and exhausted when I see him after work, and that saying "Brown bear, brown bear" makes him beam from ear to ear. So it's clearly working.

We just started going to ours. It's for up to a year old (there's a separate one for 1-2 year olds) and there are usually 6-7 babies. We do songs, a story, then more songs, and another story. They have board book copies of the 2nd story for each kid, so they get to interact with a book. Then they lay out a blanket and some toys for the kids to play together. They let us stay and play in the room as long as we want. I really like it!

Ours is 0-14 mo. It's mostly singing and nursery rhymes. Sometimes she'll read a book or two in between. It's cute - we sit in a circle and she asks each of us what song we want to do. It's made me brush up on my nursery rhymes!

Our library has 2 storytimes every day for 2 different age groups, infants/toddlers and preschoolers (in the summer, they also do an elementary-aged storytime). The infant/toddler storytime usually has three books and three interactive activities (rhymes, songs, felt storyboard activities, etc...); sometimes there is also a craft at the end. The preschool group usually has three longer books and maybe 1 or 2 interactive activities; plus, they always have a craft at the end. We go to the toddler one most of the time, but if we go twice in one week, the second visit is for the preschool storytime.

We just went to our first one this morning!

It's 0-2 years, and there were 9 LOs (plus two older siblings, ~3-4 years old). She read a book, then sang a song, read a book, sang a song, read a book, sang a song. She also had a big box of toys, and encouraged the LOs to play. It wasn't terribly structured, and I liked that a lot.

We go to a few different ones. My favorite is a smaller group.... it's actually for ages birth to 18 months, but it's such a small group (sometimes just LO and her cousin!) that it doesn't really matter, they're just happy to have people. It's very interactive. The kids get to help turn the pages of books and help put things on the felt board. LO loves it there.

We also go to a mother goose story hour. There are more kids so it's harder to be interactive.... but LO doesn't understand that and always tries to go help turn pages. They do some fun things that LO loves, like beat a drum and jump over a candle stick (jack me nimble, jack be quick).

Today I went to one that I didn't love. First thing the librarian said was that if they don't sit still or make too much noise to take them out. They're toddlers! Then she read 3 books in a row. I'm used to variety- book then song then instruments, etc. Kids aren't going to sit still through 3 books in a row. But at the end there was a fun craft- they decorated flower pots with stickers and then planted seeds.

We've also been to a few that are just singing and dancing, but the timing for those are always bad for me.
