When we started sleep training at 4 months, I picked a lovey for LO from the several Angel Dear & similar animals we were given at my shower. The way I picked is I laid all of them over my face one by one & picked the one that was most breathable haha! It was actually not my favorite cuteness-wise and I couldn't even remember who gave it to us, but I was worried about SIDS/suffocation so breathability was important to me!

Now at 10 months she is definitely attached to her giraffe (or Raf Raf as we call him). I love watching her on the monitor because when she wakes up the first thing she does is find him and bite his face :)

Edit to add: I will say that her attachment has really only grown since she started going to daycare part time and takes him with her. She liked to snuggle him before but she could definitely sleep without him - and probably still can. So I don't think 10 months is too late or that you need one before then! I just really wanted to introduce a lovey to make sleep training easier... I'm not sure it did, though!

J has a blue and white striped A+A blanket that he's had since he was a newborn. He wasn't remotely into it, or anything else as a lovey, until he was over 12 months old though.

@Dandelion: We always call J "Linus" because he tries to take his blanket everywhere. So cute!!!

My oldest has a little stuffed dog that looks just like my sister's (real) dog. My sister got it for DD as a gift to take home on the airplane when we visited around 17 months, and DD just fell in love. We never expected it to become her lovey - we'd tried to introduce others with no success. It's been tricky because it was hard to find a spare - we tracked down one but it seems they are no longer in production, and it was a random Target purchase so no luck finding it on eBay.

My 4 month old is hooked on her pink elephant wubbanub. Once we realized this, we immediately bought duplicates!

C has two angel dear loveys, a tiger and an elephant. The tiger was a hand me down from my nephew who never liked it, but c took to it so well I bought the elephant as a back up. We started giving her the plain tiny A&A blankies but she likes these more.

@Danizaur: so, I don't really know any hunters, so this may be a ridiculous question, but wouldn't it be kind f weird to have T get attached to a cute deer, when your husband hunts deer? Like wouldn't t be better for it to be a woodland creature that he doesn't hunt, like an owl or something? Or I'm totally overthinking it!

Gerbers cloth diapers. R uses the same. They are cheap and one pack comes with a lot. For S I just added a small monogram to differentiate between kids. I give it to him for naps, in the car, bed and when he is nursing.

LO has a little A&A lovey. I induced it around 5 months. She held it against her face when nursing. At 6m she had it in her crib. She loves it so much, and falls asleep easily as long as she has it. We don't let it leave her crib. She's also quite attached to her jellycat dog.

@Danizaur: Don't feel bad about not getting him something before he was born. I got my LO a Bunnies by the Bay lovey before she was born and I really want her to love it so I have been pushing it hard but she mostly ignores it. At some point, I tried a jelly cat, and she ignores that too. Hehe. She is 11 months and the closest thing she has to a "lovey" are some plastic balls.

I should add that I definitely have seen many babies/toddlers at LO's daycare with jelly cats though so I think that is a good bet for many kids.

We bought a little blanket with a puppy head attached with the idea of introducing it later on when it wasn't a danger in the crib. However, someone gave us this at our baby shower (see photo).

It went into the crib with him from day 1, and he absolutely loves it! And I didn't have to worry about it being a smothering hazard.

L is just older than T, and she hasn't really formed an attachment to anything yet. She has a few things that could be a lovey for her: a security blanket with a bear attached to it that my sister got for her (similar to an Angel Dear Lovey), a jointed pink Ty Beanie Baby-esque bunny (this one: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/TY-Attic-Treasures-Strawberry-Pink-Jointed-Bunny-Rabbit-Hare-Easter-Plush-Animal/171453702768?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140620075055%26meid%3Dc5bb66944be24562825ae6e523bc7835%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D20140620075055%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D181435862845), or a stuffed dog that used to be her dad's. The best one for her to get permanently attached to would be the bunny because it would be easiest to get multiples of--but so far, she really doesn't have attachments to any of her toys for long periods of times. The one she's really fondest of and always goes after is her dad's computer cord: we should just let her have that in the crib, no? :P Juuust kidding. So it could be that she doesn't get attached to a Lovey--I know I never did. I had a brand of dolls I really liked and kept losing so my parents kept replacing, but they weren't lovey-level that I had to sleep with them or got really sad without them or anything. But my little sister was obsessed with her blankie (which was actually a cast-off from me because I never slept with a blanket!). So who knows...

K's lovey is a travel-sized Sleep Sheep. We got it as a white noise machine that just strapped to the slats of her crib, but as soon as we started sending it with her to daycare, it became her favourite thing. She loves that sheep, drags it all over the place!
I just wish she'd gotten attached to something that was easier to wash/less expensive to replace!
@Danizaur: I didn't know anything about Jellycats until seeing them on HB, but I saw a few at Chapters the other day - they are SO soft! There were some on clearance for $12, and I almost snapped it up!

I think 10 months is a great age! I didn't get mine from my grandma until I was a few months old, and it makes zero difference to me now. It's still super special :)

LO's lovey is a Blabla dog that DH and I bought her when she was born. It now lives solely at home after we temporarily lost it. She has two others that she also really likes and are pretty special. One is from her uncle, an Angel Dear that she sleeps with. The other is a Jellycats gorilla that she is pretty obsessed with. We bought it as a replacement for the dog that we lost (but have now found) I actually wasn't going to buy this particular one, but I looked down in the store, and she had it in her mouth :silly: Go with the Jellycat-they are so, so soft!

T doesn't have a lovey necessarily. He has a build a bear my mom and sisters made him and was given to him before he was born, but I don't let him play with that yet or probably ever. It's too special. My niece has the same bear in pink that I made with my mom and sisters for her and she doesn't play with it either. We always have a toy to give him in the car or stroller, but nothing special that we or he has an attachment to.

I really want to get him a lovey. A special toy that he'll have forever that will be HIS baby toy. He'll be 10 months old at Christmas, so I'm thinking of getting him a deer (DH is a hunter and we designed his nursery and baby shower around deer themed) Jelly Cat. I wish I had bought it before he was born so he would have always had it and it would have been that much more special, but 10 months is a good age to start recognizing and forming an attachment to a toy I think. all of his toys are the same to him right now! Lol

What is your LO's lovey and what age did they get it?
