Ok I went to the cloth diaper store and they said the newborn BGs aren't very absorbant anyways but putting a wool cover over should help. She said the cotton/fleece kissaluvs with a wool cover should be plenty for now. We will see! I was expecting to need a bunch of inserts!

She also recommended the sustainable baby diapers with wool covers for over nights-they're $30 a piece so she recommends them for bigger babies. They were heavy duty!

We use disposables at night! My heavy wetter just leaked through everything, and she was having more diaper rash from sitting in it overnight anyway. And it is so nice to be able to just throw that first poop away in the morning - spraying them off is my least favorite part of the whole process.

We use one regular insert and one hemp insert in BG 4.0 and he stays in the diaper for 12 hours. We have a leak maybe once every two weeks.

BG 4.0 double stuffed :)

I find when she belly sleeps the velcro closure BGs leak up at her belly button (she sleeps 10 hours min before it's changed), but I think that's a product of fit, not super wet :)

I would definitely recommend the wool cover-- any time baby is going to be in a wet diaper for an extended period you want something that can breathe, not something designed to keep wetness close to the skin. We use a sloomb (sustainable baby-ish) fitted (with snaps, but they also have snapless) and a wool cover. We have yet to have a leak, and she is a side sleeper, so more prone to them. Poop on wool isn't as bad as you think! Though Lorelei has never pooped at night since she was a newborn.

Hmm...so I should definitely be stuffing these fitteds with something. One seems sufficient?....I guess only trial/error will let me know if natural or synthetic fibers are better?

5 diapers is what i was planning! Glad to know that's a good number. I do more laundry now because I'm home, but once I start work, she'll be in disposables at daycare so I won't have to do as much laundry.

Although the thirsties duo wrap looks like a great option because she DOES still poop =\ Poop on wool would be....bad.

We use fitteds & covers (5 fitteds & 2 covers). Right now I have some rearz fitteds that I got on sale. I'm getting some other WAHM brands b/c the rearz aren't my favorites BUT they are woking!

I use the fitted w/ a hemp or trifolded infant sized insert in it & a nb prefold folded in half in the front directly on her, not in the pocket (P is a belly sleeper & a heavy wetter). We have Thirsties duo wrap covers that I like b/c of the double gusset (for when she was still pooping occasionally at night) & we haven't had any issues.

I considered getting some fleece liners but we haven't needed them. Even when wet P's skin does MUCH better with the natural fibers & there have been times when redness or sllight rashes have actually gotten better overnight in her wet diaper! Because of P being such a heavy wetter we're actually moving to fitteds full time!

We had to go to fitteds and covers. My two favorites were:
1.) Thirsties Fab Fitted with a hemp insert
2.) Tots Bots Bamboozle
I always laid a fleece liner (like what is availble from Blueberry or Bummis) so wick away moisture since it was overnight and use a Blueberry coverall. We never had an issue once we switched to fitteds and covers for night. Since we only used them for night and I did diaper laundry 3x a week, we only needed 4 diapers and 2 covers (rinse cover if it just had pee and let air dry and that gave you one extra diaper in case you didn't get laundry finished early enough) though I preferred to have 5 diapers and 4 covers in case my life went all crazy and something happened.

We simply add a bamboo insert and that seems to work. If he nurses more at night, then we add two bamboo inserts. :)

E's been in the newborn BG diapers and I think it's time we upgrade her to a nighttime diaper system that is more heavy duty. I currently only change her if she poops at night (which she does maybe every other night) so she sits in a pee-soaked diaper from 9-6 (she only wakes up twice to eat. The first is a dream feed, the other is around 2am).

I'm leaning towards Kissaluvs with hemp inserts and a wool cover.

What works for you? I'm not sure that she's a heavy wetter, but damn the girl can sweat. I find she's often soaked through her swaddle and onto her bedding pretty seriously by 6am (lower back area, so I don't think it's pee...it doesn't smell)
