@rahlyrah: I'm the opposite. At M's school party recently I was the only parent who didn't give their kid a sugar cookie with frosting (mainly because she doesn't have a lot of sugar and I knew she would be wired all night if I let her!) but they all looked at me like I was torturing her. She was 16 months at the time.... she doesn't know what cookies taste like and it's not like she missed it. I don't get why people feel like to need to be so involved in other people's choices.

Hehe people usually don't say anything but I totally get looks about my dd's teething necklace and when I tell them her bedtime is usually around 10:30pm... and that she always nurses to sleep. Whatev, not their kid :P

@hellocupcake: Oh this happened to me with family... LO is the only grandchild and grandparents gave me a hard time about BLW method and when I look away they would at least cut up the food I gave LO into smaller pieces. Haha. After the initial period though the grandparents came around because they were so happy what a good eat LO became and would eat anything they cooked with a big smile on his face.

@rahlyrah: Oh man. I am the black sheep too. & LOL@bumpofheroin!

Yea, my IL's give me a hard time about being on a pretty strict schedule (BUT I've been trying to get better about this as he gets older....). I am a bit crazy about sweet things, in that I don't want L to have treats unless I give it to him and in small portions. My IL's think this is crazy and my MIL (who I usually have no problems with) tells me she can't wait until he's one so she can give him candy all the time. I also caught my FIL SHOVELLING spoonfuls of ice cream in L's mouth when he had a major pukey, diarrhea-y virus!

Otherwise, I'm the coolest mom evar.

I'm the mom who is terrified of other moms.
The idea of a play date where moms chat while kids play gives me hives. Small talk at the playground? I am a jibbering fool.

My friends think it is hilarious because I am social when I am out of my parenting role.

I'm really protective over my LO's routine. Bath and bed by a certain time. So this means we either have to decline a few parties or only one of us will go. Or we'll go and leave early. Paige doesn't do well with a change in routine, especially since it throws us off for a few days. Even a 30 min sleep deprivation! I get comments about how we're the adults and kids should be flexible, but that only worked when she was really young. I'm pretty much tied to her sleep schedule now.

First of all, it's his child, he doesn't need my permission to give him a bite of anything. Second of all, it was a bite of cookie not a bump of heroin. Calm the F down!

These are funny.

My friends give me a hard time for being so laid back with DD. I will let her eat anything (now that's normal, but it started when she was little), lick rocks, explore at the park, etc. I am - obviously - protective and cautious, but I also want her to learn to explore and fall and know that a little dirt isn't going to hurt her. Most of my mom friends are super paranoid.

I try to have LO at home in his own crib for naps and nighttime at the same general times each day, but at least every few weeks he misses a nap or stays up late because we're out somewhere. I share brownies, cinnamon rolls, even French fries with him (rarely, of course, no harm done!)

I liked the book "How to Have Your Second Child First." LO just has to roll with the punches sometimes :)

I get flak sometimes for being so lax with LO. He is a pretty flexible kid, so I have no problems skipping a nap or staying up late on occasion. I don't see anything wrong with letting him have a bite of cookie or brownie. I don't feed him strictly (or even mostly) organic. I'm definitely the black sheep in my circle.

I don't think anyone has given us a hard time, but in DHs family, it's common to have extremely late night parties (like until 1-2 am) and everyone brings their kids who either stay up or collapse on the floor sleeping on a pile of coats or something.

They were all shocked when at Christmas we left the family party early (at 8 pm) because we were pushing our then 6-month olds bedtime. EVERYONE was disappointed that we were leaving "so early" and just generally didn't understand why we would leave when we could just, you know, put her on a pile of coats in the corners or something. :silly:

My 3 year old niece and 6 year old nephew will easily stay up till 2 during one of these parties and then sleep till 10 the next day, but our LO is not like that. at all.
