In fact, I talk to her almost daily and often our conversations end up being conference calls with my older sister. We must share the same mother. I just read your post. My mother too, always dumped me with my grandparents. She threw extravagant parties for my brothers and bought them the greatest presents. I was nobody to her. She abused me mentally, emotionally, and physically and gave my brothers all of her love. I was a total Daddy's girl growing up, and my mom and I seemed to "clash" more when I was younger, but not like anything extreme. Think it was because we are so much alike, and now we are best friends and I can talk to her about anything. We went through our ups and downs (especially through my teenage years) but we have a great relationship now. I will say that I think being a SAHM might be part of it as a PP poster said. My mother was a SAHM and though I LOVED her and looking back am so appreciative that she stayed home with us, I was always very excited to see my dad when he got home, etc. My dad and I also have very similar personalities so I am sure that my mother had the same fears you did. I'll share this little story. When I was in first grade, we were told to write a little story about our parents. So I wrote one about all the fun things I did with my dad and then I wrote at the end "and my mom cooks." She disliked me once I started having my own personality. She always left me with my grandma. She would always buy my siblings stuff but never me. As much as we all change I feel like my mom has issues sometimes, but that doesnt take away that she's a wonderful mother and amazing grandmother. Minus, that year in high school when all we did was piss each other off! :P My mom was hands-on and definitely the one who did all the dirty in raising me and my brother. Now that I'm older, our relationship has evolved to where she says I take care of her and my dad now. It makes me feel good knowing that I can do that to pay them back in fraction for what they gave me growing up/raising me. We talk at least once a day and while there are days that she still annoys me, I am her best friend, and I wouldn't want it any other way. When I was a kid and a teenager, not so much. Part of it was mostly because we didn't understand where the other was coming from. I think it's hard for us because we're with them all day long. We're not exciting, they don't have a chance to miss us like they do their daddy's. But that doesn't mean they don't love us! My LO gives her biggest giggles and smiles to her daddy, and of course I'm jealous. But when she's crazy upset, she only wants her mommy :) I love both my parents, but I'm closest to my mom. We always had a lot in common so we've always done a lot together. My mom was a SAHM when I was young, and she always made us kids her priority. I only hope I'm as good of a mommy as she was! I mean, we were close-ish, but she was strict and I rebelled a little bit, so we definitely clashed at times. But now we're very close and we're very similar. He was the strict parent and my mom was the fun parent. When I turned 14 I went to live with her. Until then I was shy to the point it held me back. She was able to bring me out of my shell. Now that I am an adult we are really close. I can tell her anything. She is my mother as well as a friend. I know that she can't actually "hate" me (yet!) but I fear that we have clashing personalities and this fear keeps me up at night. My relationship with my mom was typical as I was growing up - she was super strict, and I was the obedient but resentful daughter. Now, we're very close. What's your relationship like with your mom?
