I pretty much store them in the car in the trunk. All of them. When I empty them, I place them near the door and put them back in my car in the morning. So I always have more than enough to grocery shop.

I do always forget that I have them so I usually have to go back out to the car to get them.

Oh, I have the compact ones that roll up easily and can be put in my purse. Though, I recently stopped carrying my large purse so I don't always have one with me.

I have about 20 bags. I keep them in the boot of the car. When I empty the bags in the house, I stack them in the cupboard..... and then take them out to the car when my boot stash is getting low.

I keep my bags in the front hall closet, I have to pass it to get to the garage from the kitchen, which is where I do my grocery list. I should keep 2 of them in the car, but I have trained myself to get them from the hall closet, even my son knows where they are.

The most important thing for me is the bag itself, I like ones that have a certain shaped bottom, so I keep those around ( I got them when I lived abroad).

The stores on my county dont give out bags either. We probably have 10-15 bags total between my husband and I. Way more than we need, but having them everywhere seems to be the only way we have them when we need them. We try to keep a few in each of our trunks at all times for random trips. When we bring the bags upstairs I try to hang more bags on the key hook to take back to our car next time we go somewhere. When we go on a planned trip then I will take a handful of bags with us so we dont use up the extras in the trunk.

I have a stash in my car, and they get used about 80% of the time. Once done, I put them on the front doorknob so I grab them next time I leave the house.

My reusable bags live in my car. I just keep a random assortment of giveaway grocery bags and paper bags from the times where I forget them or go shopping in DH's car in a big canvas bag in my trunk. I bring the entire canvas bag in with me to the store but I usually don't use them all. When I unpack the groceries, I make sure to hang the bag with my keys or I put them underneath my purse so they make it back into the car.

I've been using reusable bags for more than 10 years. I keep one bag in my handbag at all times. It folds up super small but can carry quite a lot. I keep two bags in the stroller basket. If we had a car, I would keep multiple bags there. Where I live, the only free bags are produce bags so you have to either buy shopping bags at the checkout or bring your own.

My reusable bag strategy is failing LOL

I keep them in my car, generally forget to bring them in the store. Swear when my shopping is 1/2 done and I remember I had them in my bag, then curse while I am forking over 5 cents per crappy plastic bag. Curse again while I put my plastic bagged groceries next to my nice, neat pile of reusable bags and promise myself I will grab them next time ...

When we lived in Austin they banned plastic grocery bags, so we had to get our act together quickly! We just stored them in our trunk so they were always there when needed. We now live in Connecticut and have gotten terribly lax... 😬

I keep baggu bags in my purse and in the stroller. I almost always have one on hand when I need one. I like how small the get and how study they are. I also often just load up the stroller at the store and stuff everything in the basket under the stroller so no bags at all. But I walk to the store so it's kinda like the site is a drive up.

We have some in the trunk of each car. After shopping they get folded back up and left at the front door so somebody (let's be honest, me 100% of the time) takes them back to the trunk. I also made it a rule that if I forget them in the car I have to go back out for them. Having to stash my cart and run outside a few times was enough to help me always remember.

We only ever shop with my car and the bags live in the trunk. They all get put inside one. We mostly just use them for the grocer store and we bring them all in.

You could also try these - http://www.envirosax.com/bondi-pavilion-pouch/

They were my first reusable bags and they were great. Hold a ton but packed really small.

I keep three baggu reusable bags in my diaper bag or purse at all times. They fold up so small and can hold up to 50 pounds. They are perfect for random errands, clothes shopping, or target.

I have some sturdier bags specifically for grocery shopping. I try to take them out to my car as soon as possible after using them and then they are there for next week.

I'm way behind the times on adopting reuseable grocery bags. I think it's a good practice and it's something I want to do for the environment and $$ (since stores can't give bags away in my state) but I haven't been able to get my act together and almost always show up at the store empty handed.

Now that LO2 isn't a baby any more I feel like I have to get my act together. I do several small shopping trips during the week. Often unplanned when I find myself with a few moments without the kids (lunch break, after bedtime, before daycare pick up).

What's your strategy? I'm having trouble at each step in the process: storing the bags, getting them to the car I'm driving, getting them in the store, having the right number with me.
