It's just DH and I but I cook elaborate meals most nights. Our grocery bill for the week is normally between $120-$200, which includes most dinners and week day lunches. We go out to lunch every Friday and eat out on Saturdays for every meal that we're hungry for. We probably spend somewhere around $250-$300 p/week in food when it's all said and done. We could save a considerable amount of money if I'd coupon shop and bargain hunt but I don't have time for that.

We average around $150 a week for groceries. We were spending around $200 each week until recently. The cost of living here is brutal when it comes to grocery shopping. We only go out to eat once or twice a month. I'd say our budget for that is around $50-75.

Ahhhh! DH just said we're at like $500/week eating out and WITH groceries. Is food just hella expensive where we live? We can never go out to dinne without spending at lease $50!

This is a problem

Anywhere from 100-200 every two weeks. I try to keep eating out/ordering in to about 50$ a week, but that doesn't always happen. And I'm not even counting my 2 to 4 iced coffees a day because that amount is just depressing.

probably about $150 per week, but that includes eating out which we do a bit too much. but we both suck at cooking, and it's just the two of us.. so sometimes going out for a quick bite seems much easier!

Does ordering like 30 dollars worth of Chinese takeout once a week count as food budget?

haaaaaa! Our schedules are really crazy and upredictable at the moment, so meal planning has gone out the window. Id say we are at anywhere from 50-100 a week these days.

About $150-200/week on groceries - this includes our local supermarket, Costco, and Target. My in-laws live with us, so we have additional mouths to feed in addition to our little family of 3. I've really limited my meat purchases though - we rarely buy red meat anymore and I always buy chicken and fish in bulk at Costco. I try to buy organic veggies, milk, and eggs though - quality is still very important to me!

Then we spend an additional $100/week for eating out. We sometimes buy lunch when we're at work, and this also includes things like coffee, happy hour, etc.

These are two areas we've been really working on in our budget, so hopefully we can bring these numbers down! Not an easy feat considering how important food and spending time with friends (which always includes eating) is to us!

We don't keep to a strict food budget, but we usually spend around $125/week. I've been really good the past month or so about only going to the store once a week instead of multiple little trips which has REALLY helped. Ideally I'd keep it at $75-$100, but I food is where I think it's okay to splurge and id rather go for quality.

$150-$200 for groceries, we end up spending another $100 on top of that eating out (usually every Saturday afternoon and night, and then throughout the week DH works a lot of nights on the road so he ends up grabbing stuff). For the grocery store, I don't get so specific as to split the receipt up into food and non-food stuff that we get at the store, so I just lump it all in there when tracking expenses. We need to get better once LO is here.

ETA I really do not understand how people are getting under $100 for food/week. It's so frustrating! And we meal plan AND use coupons.

We average out around $75/week for groceries, not counting eating out. But we only eat out once/twice a month, so maybe an additional $100 total.
It's gone down recently as DH is eating healthier, meaning less fast food, but we're pretty expensive for just the two of us as I have to eat wheat-free. I used to be able to do groceries at $50/week!

I honesty have no idea. I will spend anywhere between $40-60 on groceries on a week when I'm feeling well and cooking dinner ..... but I just never know how my head is going to feel so eating out happens more often then id like. And then of course some of that food will go to waste :(

About $150/week. We get take-out most Friday nights, but other than that almost never eat out (i.e. we don't go out for "fancy" meals very often, because we prefer to cook for ourselves). We both eat three meals a day at home and buy as much naturally raised and/or organic meat and produce as we can find.

We budget $100/week for groceries, which I don't generally use all of and then $100/week for eating out, which I know is ridiculous. We end up eating out pretty much every day at lunch and that is just soo expensive. Our goal is to get the total number waaaay lower by eating out less.

Our budget is "Spend as little as possible". lol. We currently spend about $125-135 a week on groceries. Since being dairy, soy, and wheat free our grocery bill has definitely gone up since substitutes cost more and I have to buy more of them.

We don't have a food budget, but I spend about 100-150/week on groceries (I shop at Whole Foods).
Not bad considering we're a family of 3 solid food eaters. :)
DH travels 2ish days a week though. He eats out and gets to expense all of his food to clients so that saves us some money.

Ugh, we don’t really budget for food but we definitely could never spend less than $100/week on food. Usually it’s probably twice that. I try to bring my breakfast and lunch every day to work; but we like to go out at least once on the weekend to lunch which is at least $40-50.

@StbHisMrs: I agree, I used to shop a lot of coupons but now that we are cutting out the processed stuff (especially chips/crackers/pasta) there just aren't as many savings.

@Smurfette: Frozen veggies are our saving grace. They are easy to make and pretty cheap. I do have to say though I am in a funk right now and am sick of them though. I am looking for good easy side dishes (paleo/primal-ish).

I've been meaning to post this same topic, perfect timing! For our family of 6 including my twice a month costco run it breaks down to about $150 a week. I should use coupons more, but I don't like to buy things we won't use or buy processed food (let's face it if it's there I'll eat it ;/ ) so the coupons usually end up being for household items and I buy those things at costco.

Last weekend we went grocery at whole foods and it was $199 - Husband was cooking and he bought live clams, then of course a bunch of other stuff. That doesn't include eating out for lunch on saturday ($20+?)

@Arden: Yeah DH won't allow meals without meat. Doesn't even like grill cheese and soup, he needs meat in the sandwiches. Plus he doesn't like frozen veggies. I think that I need to just start buying them, and tell him to suck it up. So much cheaper and easier to meal plan that way.

@Smurfette: Well we're vegetarian so that does save us money, since meat is so expensive.

Each weekly shopping trip usually consists of several types of beans, lentils, frozen fruits and veggies, fresh fruits and veggies, coconut-almond milk, and a few dairy products (yogurt, butter, cheese).

Once a month or so I buy things like seaweed, sesame oil, olive oil, rice, quinoa, oats, wheat, corn, maple syrup, nutritional yeast, curry paste, soy sauce, almonds, pecans, walnuts, pasta, spices, etc).

We make pretty much everything from scratch (I make veggie burgers in huge batches for DH's lunches and freeze them, as well as egg-veggie quiches for breakfasts), including things like bread, so that does save us money. It's still very hard though. I would like to spend $100 a week on groceries.
