@Mae: exactly this! Sometimes I look at my LO and marvel at his existence. I can't believe he's a brand new person who grew in my belly from a fleck, is genetically part me and part DH, and is so funny and huggable! My husband thinks I'm nuts when I start reflecting on it! And sometimes I look at him at its amazing how much I love him.

I've learned a lot about myself. I have discovered that I'm a control freak, that I struggle when I feel like I'm not in control and give up/run away rather than deal with the uncomfortable feelings. I've learned that Im remarkably selfish by nature - putting someone else first has been a huge culture shock to me.

Aside from my self discovery, I've learned how quickly a child can trash a room and I will never judge my clients again when I visit them!

Nature is badass. Just the fact that we made her, and I grew her, and she's a whole, complete human being... blows me away constantly. Also the amazing irrationality of hormones. The way that you can love someone so much when they are such a huge pain in the ass to start... and then that you can think any little thing they do (that literally every. other. child. does...) is like the BEST THING EVER...... its sort of perfect.

My sister, who is not a mom but who has nannied and babysat tons of kids told me this wise piece of advice that, in the past 7 months, I have learned is completely true: "Being a parent doesn't make you an expert on children, just your own child/children (and sometimes not even them either!)" Whenever I find myself doubting what I'm doing because of peanut gallery comments or "assvice," I try to remember that.

I used to let the fact that there were so many opinions and ways to do things stress me out. Like "how am I going to choose?!? What if I choose wrong?!?" I soon learned that just meant there isn't a right or wrong way. The fact that everyone has an opinion just means that I can choose any one of them and we'll be just fine.

That and having a baby is a lot of trial and error. Mostly error :-) But all will be ok.

there is no 1 right way to parent. every child is unique and no parenting book can teach you how to parent YOUR child.

1. Don't compare your kids to someone else's kids. They are all different!

2. Along with #1 - Take advice from others with a grain of salt. Just because it worked for their kid doesn't mean it will work with yours.

3. They really do grow so fast. Don't worry about the stage they are in because they will be passed it soon.

4. I had no idea my capacity to love was so huge. I also had no idea I would give up so much of myself to care for these children and be TOTALLY OK with it.

Never say never! Before becoming a mom, there were so many things I didn't think I'd have to worry about or that I thought would be such simple problems. Like sleep, just stick her in the crib and walk away right?

1) This too shall pass! This got me through so many rough spots.

2) My kid is going to be okay even if she doesn't eat her vegetables. Keep offering. Offer them in different ways. And if all else fails, give her the Goldfish crackers.

3) Getting pooped/puked on is not the worst thing in the world.

4) Kids are only little once. Stop trying to rush through all the stages and embrace the stage you are in.

Def 'this too shall pass'!

Whenever DD is not sleeping/eating, I just think about how she's already growing so fast and one day A) would not rely on my breast milk to grow and B) would not want to sleep next to me, be held, etc!

1) there is always a solution. If you don't know what it is research, be flexible, try new things until something works.

2) if nothing worked, that's okay! Things are always changing, this too shall pass.

3) new things are scary. But after a little while they're not new anymore, or scary.

4) you're responsible for your own happiness. If it's not working for you - change it!

5) I am not the most important thing in my world.

Anyone have anything to add? I feel like becoming a mom has given me confidence and perspective I didn't have before. Which will hopefully help me be the best mom, wife, friend, family, employee, person, I can be!
