DH and I can't even begin to agree on covers, so he uses one twin sized throw, and I use 3. We can't share blankets at all. ETA- It's not at all pretty (though I keep my TARDIS blanket on top, so it makes me rather happy), but it keeps us from fighting!

@stiletto_mom: a duvet is usually just a white down or down alternative comforter - you have to wash the duvet occasionally. One of the benefits is you can change your cover periodically and not have multiple thick comforters : )

This is confusing to me LOL.

So a comforter is basically a poofy blanket.

A duvet is a thinner blanket and you put it in a cover and just wash the cover?

@PawPrints: Fixed. ;) I was thinking the Duvet was just the cover... with a comforter inside it.

So, tiny clarification: a duvet is the poofy thing that is stuffed inside the duvet cover. A comforter is a different type of thing that is permanently stuffed with filling and doesn't have a separate cover. So your second option should just be "duvet" (I can't imagine combining a duvet AND a comforter unless you live in a sub-zero climate).

I'm a duvet person, if it wasn't obvious. Love them. So easy to clean.

We hadn't gotten new bedding in 7 years so I just ordered this from West Elm - hoping we like it! It's sort of summery, so I might do something darker / heavier for winter. It will be sheets, a blanket, duvet/cover.

We have a comforter from Ikea (No duvet cover… I tried to have a cover but I guess I’m not very coordinated because it was such a hassle to take it on and off… luckily our washer and dryer can handle the comforter when we needed to wash it). We also have a light weight blanket – it is super thin and cool to the touch but very warm at night, it was from Costco. We also use the flat sheet that came with our bedding set where I get from a bunch of different places but one of my fav places to get sheets is Nordstrom rack. This is our year around set up but I am from a very even year around climate of Northern California.

We have a West Elm duvet cover over a white comforter from BBB that completely fills out the duvet. The comforter was part of a bedding set instead of being one that is designed as a duvet insert.

We have matching pillow shams, but don't use them on the bed since it would be one more thing to remove before going to sleep. We have an oversized bolero pillow as the decorative pillow.

We use a quilt + light knit blanket + sheets. I think we will probably add a coverlet for winter as well. Partly for extra warmth and partly because the quilt is a bit narrow.

Comforter and duvet cover from west elm, plus sheets.

I like that I can wash the duvet cover in my small washing machine. I hate putting it back on the comforter. Luckily I pretty much only wash it when the baby spits up on it or something.

Comforter/duvet, that's it! In the summer we switch to a lighter comforter. We both hate dealing with too many sheets. We have sets from Ikea, Target and Tjmaxx.

Flat sheet and comforter in a duvet. A huge puffy down comforter for winter, and a lightweight down alternative for summer. I LOVE duvets (I have a slight problem with wanting to buy them... I have 4 or 5)... a nice easy way to change up the look.
