It always allowed moisture to get under the case for some reason. For example, if I would bring my phone into the steamy bathroom while taking a relaxing bubble bath, it would always end up wet under the case and I'd have to dismantle it, dry the phone, and put it back on again. Now I have a Lifeproof, and I absolutely love it. They got dropped thrown and generally mishandled and still look great. We used to have defenders but stepped down to commuters for less bulk and they still work great.
