@Corduroy: we have a porcelain set from C+ B that has been discontinued that has held up extremely well. No chips at all in any of the large or small plates, bowls or serving dishes.

BUT. We have the aspen bowls (since the set we got didn’t have good deep bowls) and they are very much chipped and have lots of marks in them like someone else mentioned. I need to replace them. They’re obviously not as good as the other dishes but they’re all porcelain so it’s weird. Ugh. Ours are about 10 years old.

Another vote for Fiestaware! We love ours and it holds up so well. Most pieces still look brand new and we've been using them daily for 8 years. :)

We have had this set for 10 years! It’s held up great, no chips, scratches etc despite heavy use. Only one plate has been broken and that was a pretty extreme situation (had a hammer dropped on it while it was sitting on our granite counter) so I can’t fault them for that 😂

We've had this Corelle set since 2006 with no chips. https://www.corelle.com/square-simple-lines-16-pc-dinnerware-set-w--bonus-bowls/1080549.html#start=43

DS uses the Kalas plates from Ikea still.

Our salad bowls we got from C&B cracked, even though they are hand washed & aren't used often. :(

Weird. Our 12 year old Aspen set from C&B is still in great shape. I wonder if it’s your dishwasher? Have you had the same one this whole time? We have added on over time and new ones have not had a problem. I’ve only lost a handful of bowls due to chipping.

We have the Williams-Sonoma pantry dishes. Have had them since we got married 6 1/2 years ago, and haven't broken or chipped a single one. I'm pretty impressed. We also use a local pottery companies stoneware bowls and coffee mugs. I like substantial plates, so the pantry line and stonewear are great for me.

I recently bought a set of plates and bowls from Corelle for the kids to use, and they are fine. I like the feel of a more substantial plate. And somehow my son broke a bowl the first day we had it, but no issues since (so it may have just been a defect).

We have white Corolle dishes here too. We’ve even dropped some and most of them time, they don’t even break.

I would really like to buy a set of the Hearth and Hand dishes from Target. I like how they have that homemade look and the green and black colors would go great with our decor. But I’ve read that they scratch and chip easily. Anyone have any experience with them?

I have fiesta ware, and I love it. It is heavy though, if that is a concern. I've not chipped any in almost 4 years, but I have broken 2 bowls when they slipped out of my hand going onto the top shelf and hitting granite on the way down.

I have 4 settings of 4 colors, but my mom has like 15 place settings all in different colors. I think both our services look great, or you can go all 1 color. The only downside is if they retire a color, but you can still usually find replacements online or in outlets or flea markets.

We have a set of Juliska dishes that we don’t really use around the kids so much anymore. The plates are fine, but the cereal bowls look terrible and have chipped a lot.

We have the Thompson Pottery Cape Cod set (bought about 8 years ago). The kids have broken a couple of plates, but the rest is in good shape with no chips.

Not sure if a dishwasher has anything to do with damage to dishes - we don't have one, but my parents put everything in the dishwasher and their white china is fine. They do have a couple pieces with thick glazing that are looking much worse for wear, though.

We have Lenox Butler's Pantry for our everyday dishes, and I love them! I think the pattern has since been discontinued, but I remember seeing them in the stores for years and always loving the look, so when we got married, we finally were able to register for them. They're nice enough to use for holidays too. I have dropped and broken one or two over the years. For our daughter, her everyday dishes are plastic plates from Ikea. :)

We have the C&B Maison dishes. Have had them for 7 years. Only one plate has chipped and it was totally my fault. Ours have held up really well and I think we're pretty hard on them.

Huh- we got Crate and Barrel plates when we got married 8 years ago and there are quite a few chips in them. My other gripe are the black/ gray marks from knives or forks on the plates, even around the inside of the bowls and mugs from spoons. Our set was discontinued anyway but seems like maybe the problem is C&B.

Then again, to be fair we have moved twice with them. I thought our chips came from being sloppy as we put them in the dishwasher or banging then on the edge of the cabinet or something. We have those cabinet liners underneath that cushion the shelves.

Two of the plates are chipped, but otherwise everything is in good condition. I'm glad that 12 years later I still love them because we went all-in, we have basically every piece they make - milk jug and sugar bowl and teapot and small jug and pasta bowls and platters and serving bowls and on and on and on.

For everyday we have Corelle white dishes https://www.corelle.com/livingware-winter-frost-white-16-pc-dinnerware-set/1086476.html#start=4 They have held up well for 5 years, no chipping or discoloration. They are also pretty light weight. For nicer occasions or when I want heavier dishes I use Noritake https://www.macys.com/shop/product/noritake-colorwave-20-pc.-coupe-dinnerware-set?ID=3058310

we use restaurant dishes from Front of the House. I found them by flipping a plate over in a restaurant; i loved the style.
We got them 10 years ago when we got married and we haven't had a single chip. They are heavy, but also heavy duty. They make a ton of different styles, from traditional to modern. But since their white ware is all the same color, it all matches.

I also like villeroy and boch as mentioned above. It is really nice quality.

We have a set of 12 simple white dinner plates from Villeroy and Boch, but none of the rest of our dishes match. I spent ages looking for plates that were shallow enough to fit in our old dishwasher and these fit the bill. Unfortunately, we moved and they are now too tall for our ridiculous half sized dishwasher. But we’ve had them for about 2 years and they are still perfect. My husband dropped one and broke it (i replaced it) but we haven’t had any chipping issues.

We have a set of Lenox Simply Fine dinnerware that we’ve used daily since getting married (so, 10yrs now). They have held up beautifully and I don’t think a single piece has chipped - though we’ve dropped and broken a couple.
(This is he specific pattern we have, Chirp. https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/simply-fine-lenox-reg-chirp-dinnerware-collection/113166).

I love the quality, the ease of use (dishwasher and microwave safe) and that there are a lot of retailers who sell it and a lot of options for pieces to mix and match. I also think Lenox has a replacement policy to give you a discount on re-buying broken pieces so your collection stays complete but we haven’t used it.
