From back before my dad remarried I remember a lot of soups and spaghetti and sausages and pork chops paired with potatoes and overcooked veggies...

My step mom always made casseroles and stews and all kinds of things. Generally it was a pretty standard North American diet, but she would experiment with other types of food too. I loved when we did stir fry.

@shopaholic: Me too!! I loved having soup at every meal now that I'm "all grown up" and cooking on my own. I loved the elaborate/variety of meals!

My dad also cooked Vietnamese food ocassionally along with American food here and there, but mostly Chinese food. Oh how I miss home cooking now...

My mom never cooked anything complicated. All our veggies came from a can (gross!). We always had very simple, American meals. I didn't even have asparagus until I was out of high school and no pot pie until maybe 5 years ago. :(

My dad cooked two things. Lasagna, and pancakes. Now he cooks a lot more.
My mom made a few kinds of soup, oatmeal, and occasionally something from a cookbook.
I did most of the cooking in my family, but I loved cooking so I didn't care.

My mom made Filipino food: cured meats with eggs and rice for breakfast (think Hawaiian style), lumpia (egg rolls), chicken adobo, pancit (rice noodles), arroz caldo (congee), stir-fried pork, sinigang (sour soup), embutido (like a scotch egg, but in rolls). Now that I think of it, a lot of these are pretty labor intensive and she made them all from scratch. It's pretty awesome considering she worked full-time and took care of 2 kids alone (since my dad was out deployed, he was in the military).

She also cooked more common foods like spaghetti and meatloaf and I also had my share of frozen pot pies, fish sticks, hash browns, and Chef Boyardee.

My brother never really got to experience all that, since she hardly ever cooked when he got older. I always say my mom isn't very motherly, but after writing all of that, I realize she was back then.

My dad did a lot of the cooking, and he hated following recipes - sometimes it turned out well, and sometimes...not so much. He is a big hunter, so he was always trying to feed us venison, rabbit, goose sausage, etc. in retaliation, I became a vegetarian . :) He did feed us fantastic stuffed shells when he brought dinner over last night, so I can't complain.

My mom was a Home Ec teacher, so when she cooked it was all
about following a recepie. I remember lots of crock-pot meals, casseroles and soups.

Always Chinese food. Dinner always had rice, a soup, a vegetable dish, and at least one meat & mixed dish.

We had lots of chicken and veggies, and spaghetti. They never cooked pork or seafood because my stepmom doesn't like either of those things.

My mom made pretty typical American dishes-spaghetti, stroganoff, casseroles, etc.

When it was my dad's turn to cook for us, he either grilled something or made breakfast dinner...egg, potatoes, the like.

Baked chicken, hamburgers, pot roast, basically as wonder bread of a diet as you can imagine. Hamburger Helper and Kraft Dinner were also in the rotation a few times a month.

My mom made almost all Korean food. Since Korean food is always rice, lots of side dishes, and a stew, we ate lots of stews! Our favorites were kimchi, soy bean, squid, crab, fish roe haha that all sounds not that tasty.

We also ate a lot of tofu, steamed eggs, noodles in anchovy broth or soybean broth, curry, fried fish. Wow Korean food is pretty healthy!

The only American dishes my mom made were spaghetti and potato salad, other than the sandwiches she packed for our lunches. Oh and my dad made a mean chicken soup, roast beef, steak, and soy sauce marinated drumsticks.

What kinds of foods did your parents make growing up?
