Two-buck (now three-buck!) chucks are great, or any other cheap cabernet sauvignon you can find. I would never spend over $8-10 on a cooking wine, but I do try to get a bona fide wine, and not the alcohol-free "cooking wines" at the grocery store. Ask someone who works at the liquor store, we get really great recs.
