I have a babylock Decorator's Choice - It was my big college graduation splurge back in 2006. Its a work horse and very intuitive. After fashion school, i knew i couldn't afford a industrial machine and this gave me way more options than a standard single needle machine

A cheap one with pink stripes all over it. It was on sale locally and just needed it for hemming the curtains and nowadays, making pillow covers. It's a Feiyue, a Chinese brand. It works just fine but noisy.

I have a computerized EuroPro, I got a good deal on it, so I got it. I prefer a machine that's internal mechanisms are metal, they hold up better than plastic and if you can get one that has automatic threading and tension control, get it! Those are the most common issues with machines and get me so frustrated I won't even continue with projects!

I have my Mum's old school Bernina machine. She got it second hand so it's probably about thirty years old but it's made a whole lot of clothes over the years!

I don't do a whole lot of sewing at the moment (mainly just mending and hemming) but I'm thinking about making some maternity pants and basic baby stuff.

@katdevargas I totally agree with you about old machines being sturdy and well made, they also don't have any sort of computer chip so they can be pretty easy to fix if something goes wrong.

I have a Brother LE Project Runway machine as well, but mine has blue accents and is a few years old. I was looking at another Brother machine on Amazon, but on Black Friday I saw mine for $50 at Walmart and jumped on it.

I have an old singer that was a hand me down from a friend. it's not very fancy, but as all I really am doing right now is basic stuff, I don't need anything fancy & the price was right :) if you aren't a sewer right now; it's something you're trying to get into- I'd recommend checking your local listserv or craigslist for a good, used machine. from everything I've heard, the older ones are also a lot sturdier & more well made than the newer ones. then if it's not a hobby that you decide you really would like to continue to practice, you won't have been out a lot of money :)

My sewing machine is by Brother. Its a limited edition Project Runway computerized machine with lots of stitch options.

Hmm the Singer 3323s is $129 from regular price of $190. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003T5LTGM?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

But now I'm looking at consumer reviews and it looks like Brother is the better brand than Singer. Also, I didn't really want to spend $120.

I want a machine for basic uses.

@littlehunny: Thanks! It's regular price on amazon is $190. In 10 minutes I should know the daily deal price. I should check out Costco, though. They usually have a good package deal.
