She was older- 2.5- but we went straight to a queen bed. We just put extra pillows along the open side and she only ever fell out twice, and one of those times I'm pretty sure she was trying to climb out. But a queen size means she is further from the edge than in a twin. (We alr au had the queen bed in there from before she was born).

We have an actual toddler bed, so it's a crib sized mattress in a bed frame. We have one from pikkolino and one from delta-both are good!

We went to a floor bed- a twin sized memory foam mat on the floor. Then we worked our way up to a captain's bed by moving the mat onto a mattress, then a mattress and a box spring, then the bed. He fell out twice so we borrowed a railing from a friend. I don't think he really needs the railing that much though and I kind of hate it.

Is a floor bed just a mattress on the floor?

A floor bed worked great for DD1. We transitioned DD2 at 16 months recently and she went into a twin bed that's pretty high off the ground. I put a small round long pillow under the sheet to keep her from rolling off the open end. She's never fallen out in the almost 3 months she's been in it.

I'm planning to do the same soon with 20 mo old DD; I am considering just doing a floor bed with twin mattress and then disassembling my current Ikea twin bed for when she's older.

We're expecting LO2 in December, and I'm thinking of transitioning LO1 who is 23 months to a toddler bed so we can use the crib for LO2. I wanted something with rails so we don't have to deal with her falling out, but everything I've seen doesn't have rails.

How old was your LO when you transitioned them to a toddler bed, and where did you get it/what does it look like?
