But we are lucky to live very close to lots of public land. We either get a permit from the forest service and drive way up into the woods and cut our own tree, or head to my grandparents property and cut one there. I love the tradition even though I feel a little bit bad cutting down a tree each year. We always pick one that is so crowded we figure it wouldn't survive anyway. I always wanted one growing up and begged my mum for one every year but she always said no. The year I got married, I got my first ever real tree and we've had one every year since.
