Looks like a parsnip to me, despite the sign.

Hm. Don't know about celeriac. They're usually rounder and more of a.yellow green color, I thought.

@yoursilverlining: I love mashed potatoes with celeriac so much that I never make it without anymore!

@spaniellove: If it is celeriac, that's an odd looking one! ;-) We love celeriac pureed with parsnips in soup, and also use shredded celeriac in a sort of cole slaw/veggie slaw. It's got a nice, peppery flavor!

@yoursilverlining: That's kind of what I was hoping when I bought it...I didn't know what a celery heart was! So I thought it was a skinny/early celery root.

I still think it is a parsnip--maybe they had the other things mislabeled! Parsnips can be treated just like potatoes.

If it was labeled as "celery heart", is there any chance it is celeriac?? I've never seen one so long, but other than that it looks a lot like celeriac!

@locavore_mama: Hmm...possibly? I wish I was a better cook and could just tell from the way something looked what I should do with it!

ETA: That's true! It is a root after all!

My guess was parsnip, but I guess you narrowed that out :) Want to cut it open?

I grabbed this at WF but it was mislabeled as "celery hearts" which it's definitely not! It looks sort of like a parsnip but it's warty, and this was the least warty and gnarly of the lot...plus they had parsnips nearby and they looked different. I wish I knew what it was so I could find a use for it! Any guesses?
