The painting part took way less time than I thought ... They slapped the paint on in about 20 min and were bouncing around playing with balloons after that. I felt maybe it was a bit young to get the most out of it (but it was still fun. They just have someone there to facilitate the craft and you get the room for 2 hours. I would imagine it has to be pretty simple for a 4 year old, so not SUPER time consuming, but if it involved paint it would be messier and take more time. I think the beauty of the 2 hour party is you don't have to serve a meal if you don't want to - just cupcakes and milk boxes or something might be fine at the end of the affair. We were at a play gym party a few weeks ago and the food and cake portion took almost an hour! They do a craft and you can bring in some food. She grabbed pizza from Costco (ironically in the same mall) and brought in cupcakes and juice boxes. Third birthday: we rented out a dance studio For her fourth we will probably do the dance studio (not the same as her 3rd birthday) that she currently attends, their packages include dance & movement. Both of my LOs have winter birthdays and I'm sad we'll never get to do an outdoor/summer activity birthday! This year will be my older LO's first friends party (he will be 5!). We rented an indoor play place (very small venue) that has climb on/ride on toys on one side and toys/arts and crafts on the other. She's yet to have a friend party. For her 4th, before her daycare friends leave for pre-k and k, I'm really hoping to throw her a friend party. Most of these kids, she's been with since she was 8 weeks old! I'm thinking about the zoo ($$$!!) or some kind of arts & crafts venue. Both are things she LOVES! Where have you held parties for your LO, outside of your home?
