We paint quite a bit. I strip them down to diapers and let them go to town. Afterward they get a bubble bath because they usually get pretty messy. Our counter tops (Corian) wipe up easily so I don't stress about the mess too much. When it was warmer they'd paint outside at the picnic table and I'd let them go to town out there. I only let them do playdoh outside because I hate the little pieces that end up all over the floor if we do it inside. Blake still samples it occasionally at 2.5, though. We tried leaf rubbings with crayons the other day and they thought that was boring. They like painting stamps (I cut very basic shapes out of potatoes or mushy apples) and then stamping them all over a long piece of butcher paper. We painted leaves and stamped those the other day, too, but that was a little hard for them. We also have Melissa and Doug stamps that they LOVE.

We made homemade play dough so if he eats it it's just gross tasting. We use cookie cutters and cut out shapes.

We color with pencils and crayons and Color Wonder markers.

He's really into his bath crayons right now.

He also has been enjoying playing with window clings on our sliding glass door.

We have those water coloring books that have the sheets preloaded with paint dots that you just paint with water and a paint brush.

You can also squirt some paint into a gallon ziploc bag and let them do mess free finger painting.

And there's always sidewalk chalk outside.

Paint, paint with water, stickers, markers, stamps, crayons

Crafting usually ends in bath time over here at almost 2.5 ;)

I give her a watercolor palette but no water, I just get the colors wet at the sink for her. It limits the mess but a lot. The colors get mixed a little bit you can wipe them off with a damp paper towel and it's good as new.

When we use regular paint it is diaper only and in the kitchen helper at the counter. She's really good at staying put though. It's straight to the bath afterward, she's usually covered in it but she will paint for a solid half an hour.

She has very recently gotten better about not eating the play dough (2 next week) but we had a few times where I took it away after she tasted it so I think that helped.

At 23 months we started glue for collages and I was shocked at how well she did.

We can't however do crayons because she legit eats them...

My LO is 20 months too and she loooooves paint. I just put a tiny bit of each color out and give her qtips and let her go nuts. Qtips are nice instead of brushes because she likes making dots and it's harder to get a lot of paint on them.
We also used those do a dot paint markers which are still paint but less messy.

If you're worried about her eating it, we've finger painted with pudding (vanilla pudding + food coloring) or you could sub the pudding for plain yogurt

We also tried gluing squares of colored tissue paper with a glue stick. My daughter didn't quite get it but a lot of the other kids did so you could try that.

My eats play doh so that's out lol. He likes painting, but doesn't last long and it's a huge mess. Color only lasts a couple of minutes also. Would love to hear what others do also.

My little one is 20 months and wants to do whatever her sister does. However she still samples things and doesn't always remain at the table (duh).

She colors with crayons and does stickers, water wow, etc. She seems like she'd like something..more. But I'm not sure what to do!

Paint scares me 😂I suppose I could try play doh and take it away for awhile if she tries to eat some?? Lol.
