I felt like I did it the right way: hard work, exercise, eating well...but I still felt terrible about myself and was really shocked that the weight loss didn't immediately equal happiness.

<description>&#60;p&#62;I've never been through weight loss surgery or a dramatic weight loss, but I think it's very important to go through the mental changes as well. Out of three friends that have had the surgery, only 1 has made the required lifestyle changes.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;My old roommate lost 100 lbs the old fashioned way. I think this really helped her mental state. She put in a ton of hard work, made permanent changes and gained a ton of confidence. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;It was interesting, we both weighed 180, but I was at the heaviest weight in my life, and she was at her lowest. It was interesting to see the differences in our esteem and happiness.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;@highwire:  have you been through weight loss? Or are you just dealing with body image issues. (Tell me if I'm being too nosy)
