Grunting and straining, really awful gas, mucus in poops, massive projectile vomiting. He also has reflux, so it was hard to know at first what was causing what. With reflux meds and no dairy, he's like a different baby!

I just thought I had a "difficult" baby that was either fussing or screaming. It wasn't until there was blood in his diaper at 10weeks that I thought something might be wrong.

Mucousy green poops. Lo actually wasn't fussy but my instinct told me the poop wasn't right. Peds brushed us off but after I eliminated dairy her poops returned to normal.

DS had projectile vomiting, green stool with mucus in it, and he always sounded stuffy and had a cough. He also had bad eczema.

@NovBaby1112: If its just gas, I would say it is an immature digestive tract. My 8 week old had tons of gas problems around that time that lasted a couple of weeks. If there were other symptoms with it, I would be more concerned.

Horrendous massive projectile spit ups that made us start using blankets as burp clothes (my husband suggested garbage bags!) lots of grunting and crying... Poor guy. Normal stool though. Stopped almost entirely within 48 hours of me cutting dairy completely from my diet.

I had suspicions that built up over a few weeks. She was pretty fussy and never slept much even in the first few weeks. She nursed constantly (almost every hour). Then her poops started turning greenish and mucousy. I had overactive letdown and convinced myself it was that for awhile, but eventually she started getting little specks of blood in her diapers (looked like coffee grounds) and that's when I knew I was dealing with a food issue. Once I cut out dairy, those went away pretty quickly (although honestly it never got 100% better and her poops tested positive for blood until the pediatrician finally decided to stop testing her altogether at 10 months because it was driving us crazy and LO seemed fine).

@LovelyPlum: thank you! Something is telling me something isn't quite right- he is just SO gassy. @MrsSRS: hmm no green poop, but I have noticed it has some mucousy texture to it

@Truth Bombs: thanks for sharing! He seems to be handling it ok but during his gas episodes you can tell her is super uncomfortable

Mucus in the stool, lots of spit up, and gas that made her obviously uncomfortable. She really wasn't a fussy baby though, she she handled it relatively well. But we could tell something was up.

I'm so sorry. My LO had gas issues, too, but she also screamed constantly and threwarding up all the time. Don't discount that mama instinct. I strongly suspected it well before we could prove it.

Also, here are some old threads that might help:

I'm curious to hear from those whose LOs had or have a milk protein allergy....what were the first signs where you suspected something was wrong? What age did it start?

Something is making me think that DS might have one even though his stools seem normal. He is 5 weeks old and it's like he is a different baby the last few days- he is extremely gassy, and is having the hardest time with the painful gas. He grunts and strains what seems like all day long yesterday. Even after burping, gas drops, gripe water, he is still in so much pain. I have no clue if it's what I ate bc I am EPing and have a huge stash I the fridge that I circle through, so the milk is probably from 2-3 days ago.
