If they signed "all done" and didn't eat much, we would explain that if they were hungry later, they would only be able to eat their leftovers. I tried to make things she could eat if I cut it up really really tiny when she was first starting solids (after we made it past trying foods one-by-one). So I'd make tacos with beans and I'd give her tiny pieces of meat and beans with a pouch on the side and soft tortilla and guacamole. With new meals, I try to make something she'll definitely love and try not to worry about her not eating the other things. I figure on a week to week basis, she eats good so one meal that she's not crazy about won't hurt. But if she asks me for more food after dinner, I just offer her what we had for dinner. And she always gets a cup of milk before bed.</p> <p>Eta: my dd is 21 months and so far, we've only had a couple tantrums about her asking for more food after dinner. But I usually make dinners that she'll eat. Spaghetti, tacos, casseroles, rice/chicken veggie, burgers/fries. Sometimes he eats a lot of dinner and other times he doesn't like it so he doesn't eat much. He's never complained later of being hungry though.
