I have had issues getting my 13mo daughter to eat more than a few bites of meat, so besides dairy I give her lentils for protein.

The easiest way to make it is with a pressure cooker. I put in about half a cup of dry orange lentils, peel and chop in a sweet potato and sometimes a carrot, add a bit of spice and a tiny bit of salt, and it makes a ton (I freeze some in a silicone muffin tray). I have provide more specifics on the recipe if you'd like. You can serve it as is or mix it with rice.

@Espion: oh no!! Don't be afraid to reintroduce foods he didn't like before a month or so later. My LO constantly goes through love hate phases.

@Espion: My LO is 12 months and so far she really likes rotisserie chicken from the grocery store, salmon that I bake, breakfast sausage (I try to buy the nitrate and MSG free brands), and then macaroni noodles with ground meat and jarred sauce that I usually add a vegetable to, like butternut squash or broccoli.

Today, for example--LO ate 2 sticks of breakfast sausage (broken into bits) plus some broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots sauteed in fake butter.

@locavore_mama: We've only tried salmon, and he barfed in our lap! I'm not sure if it was the fish or if he was just full. I have some frozen shrimp too...I'll have to try that! I sooooo wish he'd get the "dipping" thing. He may just be too young, because all he wants to do is fingerpaint in it.

@Smurfette: Oooo, I would love a school lunch. The sliced turkey is a great idea. Totally picking some up today.

@espion, I've discovered that E will eat any veggie as long as it's in a pancake/patty/burger shape. Zucchini fritters have been a staple for us, too. I think the cheddar cheese in the broccoli ones helps cut down on the strong veggie taste, too.

Oh yeah, fish goes down easy, too. I think it's just softer and some white fish is super mild, it's like she doesn't know it's meat :)

@Espion: have you tried fish or seafood yet? My LO prefers that over meats. Also sometimes it's about the cut of meat to her. She loves meat off the bones. So chicken thighs, pork chops, etc. But your LO might still be young for that.
Or how about dipping sauces? Recently discovered LO loves Hoison. She will eat anything dipped in Hoison. Including plain old chicken breast.

@Espion: The only meats R will eat are Keilbasa, Chicken nuggets, chicken sausage, turkey sausage, turkey deli meat.

She gets a school lunch, but on nights when I don't have anything ready, she will eat sliced turkey, cheese and fruit (she won't eat veggies but sweet potatoes maybe 2x times a week). Super easy but protein and it won't have to be reheated.

@Espion: there are meats the kids will eat at home too that they won't when i put it in their lunch (like salmon).

try mini meatballs with little picks in them to entice him?

@blackbird: Oooh! I will definitely try those. You might have noticed that he is missing a vegetable too!

@Adira: @Mrs. Bee: I'll have to try breakfast sausage. He likes barbecue chicken, so I'll have to try that too.

@autumnlove: I hadn't thought of turkey. Do you make your own meatballs or do a pre-made kind?

I wish E had a meat he would consistently eat. Part of the trouble is that he will eat chicken, meatballs, and rarely eggs, at home, but they come home untouched from daycare. (And they do try them first.) I even tried cheese raviolis! He wouldn't have it.

Always leftovers! Today it's roasted chicken breast, corn, peas and strawberries. She gets snacks at daycare.

Yesterday was baked panko crusted salmon, roasted Broccoli, yam fries and bananas.

I always have shrimp in the freezer a back up for her protein. I always do a protein, veg, fruit and fourth item.

Egg free facility so no eggs allowed.

I am at a loss for a protein to send. And can I say that I'm totally ignorant on how much to send? (ETA: DH is away. Homeboy does such a good job with this. that guy.)

E is 13 months old and eats fruit, yogurt, and cheese pretty reliably. But chicken is a total hit or miss. Consequently, he goes with a container of sliced cheese, a container of grapes or strawberries, a greek yogurt, and a sippy of milk. I feel like I'm starving my kid. (We always feed him breakfast at home, and I usually pick him up around 4:30 pm.) So I guess this is lunch and a snack.
