@Anagram: Good to know about the strong taste of hemp (I've never had it). I'm going to let her decide when we wean and since she's a major boob monster it should give us some time to introduce her to the flavor if we go that route!

@Mamaof2: @littlebittyhouse: I never had coconut milk until we started dealing with MSPI and I really like it! I actually prefer it for my coffee over almond milk. Also, Starbucks will start carrying coconut milk next week - yay!

I quit pumping at one, but just gave LO water. As a family we drink almond milk, but LO was not really interested. Now at 18 months, LO sometimes drinks almond milk, but mostly water. I wasn't so worried about calories because she ate a fair amount and I still nursed, and she can now eat cheese and yogurt so she's getting calcium.

We chose to not give milk as a part of her daily diet. Instead, we do a ton of cashew cream, coconut oil, avocados, walnuts, etc. for good fats. We follow the: "food for nutrition & water for hydration" idea. We did try hemp milk (she wasn't a fan), but I'm hoping she'll like it eventually for little snacks or a treat.

There are some articles/threads (?) on here by Mr. Bee about Hemp milk. It's magic.

I pumped until he was 2 and then switched to unsweetened coconut milk. Its what I used in baking so we always had it in the house.

My plan was just to keep using breast milk. Is that an option?

I chose hemp milk, because it had the most calories (aside from rice milk, which was a no-go because of the arsenic issue).

The only problem was that hemp milk has a stronger taste, so it was a long transition from BM to hemp milk--it took at least a month of doing 5 oz Bm to 1 oz hemp milk and slowly increasing the hemp.

She drinks it now just fine at 19 months. And we've always mixed 1/2 unsweetened with 1/2 sweetened vanilla for taste.

I'm starting to think about introducing a milk alternative to DD when she turns a year old in March, but I'm not sure which to do! At 10.5 months she still doesn't tolerate milk in my diet, so I'm assuming we'll be dealing with this for a bit longer. I drink almond milk, so that's would be easiest, but there's a lot of info out there about the positives and negatives to each milk alternative. I'd love to hear what other MSPI mamas gave to their LOs and why you made that choice.
