I had an apron style with DS and I didn't love it. DS was always kicking or waving his arms and exposing me at the sides. I got a Covered Goods one that I hope is better. I'll find out later this week when DD's here if it works better for me!

I used the Babe au Lait one during my short stent with BFing. I thought it was very light and compact that I could fit it in my purse. This was helpful when I needed to go to the nicu and pump.

Thanks everyone! That Covered Goods one does seem nice because of the full coverage. The one I borrowed was like the Bebe au Lait ones with the stiff top so you could see the babe, which I did like, too. So many people like just using the muslin blankets, but I would be worried about them slipping.

@Foodnerd81: @PawPrints: I definitely should get some nursing tanks - somehow I only have one from last time around!

@mfa_lady: Yes! Loooooove my Covered Goods cover! I love that it's 360-degree coverage - I feel less exposed using it than my other one (a Bebe au Lait) and much easier to manage and keep on than an A&A blanket. And it's so soft and pretty, and it folds up nice and small to fit in my bag.

I have the Baby Au Lait.. It's worn as I got it with my first in 2012 but it works. I wanted to buy a Covered Goods one for LO3 but haven't gotten around to it and figure I've got 6-9 months to go, so whatever. Sometimes I use an AA swaddle too.

Hooter Hider by Bebe Au Lait. DS likes to pull at it which makes things a bit challenging but its a great little cover!

Definitely recommend getting some nursing tank tops that you can wear under a regular shirt for nursing in public. The cover is only a usable option for a while, then most babies won't tolerate it. Though who knows, I did see (and was surprised) a friend this weekend nursing her DD under a cover and she's 16 months old just like my DD!

To answer your question, for the few weeks we did use a cover, it was a secondhand Udder Cover. I was relieved to stop using it just bc it took up a lot of space in the diaper bag, but it was handy for a while.

@GreenThumb: yeah I dress accordingly when I will be nursing in public- either a neckline I can unbutton or pull down, or a tank under looser shirt. I def don't like exposing my belly in public.

I like the "traditional" one b/c of the thin wiring that keeps the neck open so I can see in. DD did not like having something directly on her head/face, and I didn't like having to either lift it up the whole time so she isn't too hot, or constantly lift it to look at her.

I have two from a local friend of a friend "These Hidden Gems" but rarely use them as nursing covers. I usually end up using my A&A swaddled or nothing.

I usually layer clothing (T-shirt over tank) if I anticipate NIP or just pull down/up my shirt, whichever works best. A&A blankets have been my go-to actual "cover".

@GreenThumb: I have a nursing scarf from Motherhood that I used last time. Haven't nursed in public yet this time, but I'll try it again. Also, have you thought of wearing a stretchy tank top under your regular shirt? That way you can lift the top shirt and pull down the top of the tank and your belly stays covered. I love the Target Merona tanks bc they can do this easily and bounce back.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I definitely feel like I'll be more comfortable nursing in public this time around, but don't think I really have enough nursing friendly clothing to not use a cover (too much belly exposure :silly: ). I might give the infinity scarf-type cover a try! Especially since I can DIY one pretty easily. I was actually thinking I could just make one out of muslin so it would be cooler.

@avivoca: I used to do the same with the Aden and Anais blanket. I'd tie it to my nursing bra and just drape it a little. Not fully covered so baby could get air. I had an infinity scarf type cover and it was always way too hot.

I used a Bebe au lait one sometimes with my first but usually ended up using a swaddle blanket tucked into my bra strap to hold it loosely in place. Mostly because it was easier to only have that with me all the time.

This time I never got the actual cover out. I try to find an out of the way spot (like not facing other diners in a restaurant) and use nothing or the swaddle blanket. She's so distracted now it would be impossible to cover her and I'm usually to busy making sure my toddler doesn't run into traffic or something to care.

Covered Goods! I LOVE mine. Used it for nursing (I got it a little late-in-the-game) and still use it as a shopping cart cover. It can be a stroller cover, too. Super lightweight and stretchy and easy to throw in a bag. I'm so glad I'll have it from the beginning for #2.

When DD was nursing almost 3 years ago, I used a hand-me-down nursing cover that I just realized I have to give back since the friend who lent it to me is pregnant, too! I used it all the time out in public so I know I need a new one. I'm sure there are all sorts of different nursing covers out these days. What do you use?
