@Thehistoryofus: i understand skimming over them if they aren't relevant to your child! all the monthly updates are tagged by month (5 month update), so they can be read in one place. do you mean that you'd prefer we only have one post with everyone's monthly update, once a month?

I think having a general structure to the site is important so that there is a cohesive vision/voice even when there are all different kinds of moms sharing different experiences, which is why we don't really have this is what I did today type posts. Day in the life or story type posts can be really great when it is just one blogger like on Marriage Confessions where you're invested in her personal story, but I don't think it's a format that works as well for a group blog like Hellobee. You might only be interested in one person's day in the life for instance instead of the 20+ other bloggers, so you'd be skimming even more posts.

Hope that gives you a better idea where I'm coming from! These are all things that I definitely think a lot about and I appreciate your feedback!

I really enjoy the website SimpleMom.net.
It's a kinda-crunchy mom site. She's a Christian, but I think anyone with a spiritual bent would enjoy it.

I like it b/c it's well-organized and covers interesting content. I like the "topics" button so I can easily pick out what I want to read. I don't have children, but I still appreciate the majority of the postings.

It's just a down to earth site that is a breath of fresh air to me.

@Mrs. Bee: I guess boring wasn't a great term to use but if you don't have kids that age or your kids are past that age I often skim over them. I do love looking at all of the cute pictures though. I love "following" other families and watching the kids grow and meet milestones but its just nice to read through "Day in the Life" or retelling a story/event format.

One suggestion might be trying to find a way to look at all the monthly updates in one place together from all the bloggers. So if I had a 5 month old, I could read all the 5 month old updates from all the HB bloggers in one place.

@Thehistoryofus: aww i'm kinda bummed that you feel the monthly updates are boring. i try to put a lot of helpful information in my monthly updates like schedules, milestones, etc. so that it's helpful to other moms with babies that are younger.

monthly updates also gives our bloggers a chance to maintain a regular record of their baby's life, and it's the one post they write that is truly personal. i think our bloggers create content that is personal to their experience, but they always keep the reader in mind to make it helpful, so it's nice that they can have a post where they can just post cute pictures of their kids and talk about them.

this isn't a personal blog, which is why you don't see posts along the lines of here are some cute pictures of my kid, here's what we did today, etc. that's why i like the monthly updates, but i understand if some people don't!

MODG because she is real. Her post on accepting her high needs child hit home with me especially.

Crappy Pictures cause it is hilarious.

Happy Healthy Mama because of the recipes. She is also struggling with infant intolerance right now.

@MaisyMay: Aww, yay!
One of the other things I like about her is that she's very normal and relatable (even though we're not that similar) and I never feel bad about myself when I read her blog. (That's a big one- I feel like she has a good marriage, a good relationship with her kids, and is in a good place generally in life, but all in ways that are realistic and doable)
There's a place for "this blogger makes amazing artwork for her child's room!", but I find "Here is how I managed the logistics of taking two children under the age of 2 grocery shopping at the same time today" more relevant to my daily life :)

Like PP, I like relatability as well as a more "in the moment" approach sometimes.

I read Guerrilla Mom and Crappy Pictures regularly. I love the photos and the way she tells stories. Guerrilla Mom I started reading because I know her, but I love how real she is and sometimes it really helps to read her (and the articles she writes on mommyish) to help with any mommy guilt.

What I love about both of them are that they are real-time and honest, sometimes a little snarky, sometimes quite funny.

@Lozza: Thanks for typing up the description of Marriage Confessions. I agree with everything you wrote and that is the same reason I like to follow her blog. Its more of a daily life + advice rather than just advice. I also like how I get to "follow" her kids and family without the boring "14 month update", etc etc etc.

Since I'm currently pregnant, I like Lay Baby Lay, Pregnant Fashionista, and Chic & Cheap Nursery. Another interesting read has been Modern Alternative Pregnancy. While I'm not sure I always can get on board with it, it's pretty crunchy (I say that in a good way) and does have some interesting info that I've appreciated reading whether useful/applicable to me or not. I've also really liked Cool Mom Picks. I don't really get into individual Mom blogs because, to be quite frank, I just can't identify with many of them. I'm hoping to find more individual blogs that I like soon.

I read Marriage Confessions. I feel like most of the blog posts on Hellobee are kind of "summary" posts- by that I mean that someone has thought through (and often researched) an issue, and presents their findings. Marriage Confessions is almost more similar to an extended Hellobee board post- she occasionally will generalize, but usually she relates a very specific incident or two and talks about what was behind it and how she handled it. I like that specificity. I enjoy the general posts on discipline philosophy on Hellobee, but I also enjoy when Katie of Marriage Confessions says things like "I make my kids say 'thank you for dinner' before they're allowed to leave the dinner table, and last night my two year old refused to say it so I wondered whether or not it was a realistic expectation, and then I talked to my mom and my husband and we decided she was just being stubborn and I needed to stand my ground, so I went back and checked in with her every couple minutes for half an hour till she finally said thank you and then we hugged her and got all excited so I'm glad that worked." (I am paraphrasing, clearly). And there definitely are HB posts like this, but that's one of the things I like about MC.
I also enjoy how frank she is about her relationship. I don't by any means think HB is all sunshine and rainbows, but there's very little in the blog about working through relationship issues, though I think the number of board posts on this indicates that it's of great interest to everyone.
In general, I feel like most HB blog posts are bloggers reporting back once they've been through something, and one of the things I like about MC is that I feel like she reports as she's going THROUGH things, which i appreciate.

I read coolmompicks because they present interesting gear and new brands, Kiwi Crate's "The Studio" blog for really doable crafting projects, Inhabitots because it gives me a parenting view into green topics. I'm really looking for more parenting sites for school aged kids. I have been reading alphamom and babycenter's pre-schooler section but I'm looking for more.

ETA: I would LOVE to find some blogs about child psychology and education but I have no idea where to start, so if anyone knows of any...

Marriage Confessions is one of my favorites!!! I would love to see guest posts from her.

Kelle Hampton is another one that would be a great guest.

I do like that the "month boards" on TheBump are more active. It is also easier on TheBump to see what ages/pregnancy weeks other members are at based on their "signatures". I wished HB had a feature because I always forget the ages of people's LO's or the #weeks pregnant (nice to know when giving advice).
