'First-time Parent' covers the basics in a concise and rational way. It may only be published in the UK though. Also, 'The Continuum Concept' helped me realise that I should try viewing things from the baby's perspective.

I like happiest baby on the block but also wanted to mention Heading Home with your Newborn. It is written by pediatricians and is well written and clear. I read it while I was still pregnant and then used it as a resource as things came up, like what colors of poop are normal and what should I worry about? Or what do I do after the umbilical cord comes off?

Good luck!

@Oliviapope: Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn is my absolute favorite pregnancy book. There is a newborn section too that you may find helpful. I give a copy to every pregnant person I know.

I bought lots of books but once J was here never really had time to read them. If you buy books try to read them before the baby gets here and then just re-read important sections as necessary.

12 Hours by 12 Weeks. We didn't follow her suggestions to the T but I credit it for my early good sleeper. And sleep was the most important thing to me.

The biggest help for me was a FB group called Mommywood. It was super helpful to have a place to ask questions! It is a pretty similar community to Hellobee (which I didn't find until later). I actually didn't read a single book!

@Oliviapope: by far the most helpful thing was the happiest baby on the block DVD. I checked it out of the library but if you have to buy it, it's worth it. So much easier to see the techniques than read and guess whether you're doing it right. Incredibly reassuring to see other babies crying (because yours will cry like that too). And my DH didn't read any of the books but he watched the DVD with me several times so he knew the techniques just as well as I did!

Looking for suggestions. With only a few weeks to go, I have got Happiest Baby on the Block on my list, but looking for others. We have the Mayo Clinic Guide to the first year too. I'm trying to go into this and stay calm, relaxed, with not too many expectations, but also be prepared to do whatever will help my LO be happy, get enough rest, etc. thanks for any suggestions!
