Used to be pretty bad, but now some days they don't fight. But now B has picked up the habit of making disgruntled baby noises right back at E when they argue. So now I've got the both of them whining like babies, in the same voice, while they fight over toys. Lovely.

On the bright side, E is definitely not a pushover. Good for her.

Yes, 5.5 and 2.5

My mom observed it and she was astounded. She realized why its so exhausting to even just be with the two of them. We started telling my oldest to keep it calm or they would be separated. She doesn't want to have to play alone so usually she can help keep things calm.

@KayKay: Hopefully it's a two year old thing! I have 3 girls and my 2.5 year old is the same. She's just rough, even when she's expressing positive emotions (hugs are a full on tackle sometimes).

Samesies, and mine are girls. I don't think it's gender specific, although maybe yours play a little more rough (maaaaaybe -- ours does tend to have a fair amount of pushing, hitting, hair-pulling, and attempted biting! and that's just from the 2y old)

I have 1.5 year old B/G twins and they take each other's toys, step on each other, use toys to hit each other. They push the other if I'm holding both in my arms. I'm assuming since they are still young, things will probably get worse as they get older, right. *sigh*

Oh, my son is particular more daring than my daughter so I can see how if I had two boys, it could be worse.

@winniebee: Mine go through phases, they'll play really nicely for a while and be a great team, then they'll antagonize each other constantly. I loved and highly recommend Siblings Without Rivalry, also I'm just finishing Peaceful Parent, Happy Siblings and that's great too.

Yes. Totally. They are 2.5 months apart, 14 and 17 months currently. And we are pretty much constantly separating them. A month ago it was pretty one sided. T who is bigger and older would tackle O constantly. O has since become quite a hitter, and will now run up to T and whack him on the head with whatever she can find. It's really fun trying to referee constantly when they don't listen at all.

It depends on the day! Some days 85% of the time and some days only 25%.

Similar ages and right there with you. The problem here is my older one "reacts" horribly by screaming, tantruming, tattling, etc. nearly instantly....and my younger one loves the reaction.

A friend's pediatrician advised her to let her kids fight it out on their own more often...I'm personally too nervous to do that because the girls actually do get really rough with each other. Scratching, hair pulling - it's not pretty. :(

But yeah - they say they are best friends, they CAN play together soooo nicely, and about 60% of the time they are fine!

Maybe it's a product of having boys, but I spend approximately 50% of my day breaking up fights between my kids (ages 4.5 and 2). They start playing nicely, then someone steals a toy or starts playing with a toy the "wrong" way or someone is too physical and they need a mediator. I feel like they can play together for 5 mins before something goes amiss.

Anyone else?
